Guilford Technical Community College ( GTCC ) is currently the fourth largest of North Carolina Community College System’s 58 institutions.

We are looking for an exceptional leader, who shares our institutional mission, vision, and values, to join the team as our new Librarian.

The Librarian will work under the direct supervision of the Public Services Librarian. This student-focused librarian will create, develop, and facilitate information literacy sessions.

In addition, this role will collect and analyze statistical data, participate in library outreach, and provide suggestions for collection development and acquisitions.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required, as well as a willingness to work cooperatively.

Duties / Functions

  • Provide reference and research services to students, faculty, staff, and community patrons utilizing print and digital resources in-person and online.
  • Facilitate information literacy sessions to in-person and online classes using the Integrated Library System OCLC / Worldshare Management Services and the college Learning Management System ( LMS ), Canvas.
  • Participate in library planning, assessment, service reviews, analysis and development of student learning and service outcomes.
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of research guides (Libguide), video tutorials, and bibliographies.
  • Contribute to the development of library marketing strategies.
  • Participate in the collection development process in all formats including print, electronic, and media; leads collection development efforts that support programs based at the High Point campus.

Assist with inventory of the library collections.

  • Participate in the broader academic life of the college through service on committees as appointed by the library director or the President’s office.
  • Supervise and mentor library work study students. Assist at the circulation desk as needed.
  • Demonstrate and model the college’s employability skills : adaptability, communication, information professing, problem solving, responsibility, and teamwork.

Education Required

Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science / Studies from an American Library Association ( ALA ) accredited institution.

Education Preferred

Experience Required

  • One year of professional experience in an academic library.
  • Experience developing and teaching information literacy sessions.
  • Experience using an integrated library information management system (e.g., OCLC / WMS ).

Experience Preferred

  • Greater than one year of professional experience in an academic library.
  • Experience using Lib Guides software and the Lib Apps platform.
  • Experience teaching online.

KSA Required

  • Ability to interact in a professional, respectful, and positive manner.
  • Attention to details and the ability to meet scheduling expectation.
  • Proficient in MS Office products including MS Word, Excel, and Power Point.

KSA Preferred

  • Commitment to working effectively as part of the library team to support student learning.
  • Excellent organizational and follow-through skills to ensure achievement of objectives within established timeframes, working independently and as a member of a team.

Department / Job Specific Requirements

Ability to work on different campus sites as needed.
