Job Profile Summary

Under general supervision, this position provides technical support and services such as access, discovery, and maintenance of electronic resources throughout the entire product life cycle.

Responsibilities include activation, URL maintenance, and troubleshooting of databases, online journals, eBooks, and other web-based information resources.

Provides guidance and training for other employees.

Minimum Education :

  • Associate degree required.
  • An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.

Minimum Experience / Training :

Two years of related experience.

Essential Functions :

Daily - 20% : Provides technical support and services to the Library Access and Discovery department. Troubleshoots and resolves access issues by coordinating the activities of library vendors, the college, and / or supporting consortia.

Maintains, records, and assists library staff and patrons with issues relating to E-Resources. Keeps abreast of changes to access, title changes, product migrations, issues, and broken links.

Keeps staff informed on the status of resources. Creates and maintains public access points including Database lists, e-journal holdings, and Library guides.

Weekly - 10% : Collaborates with colleagues to configure and integrate vendor search widgets or other components into learning systems and tools.

Maintains and monitors the schedule of periodic record loads and performs spot checks on record loads that are performed by the consortium.

Monthly - 15% : Utilizes visualization tools to create reports based on usage and cost to facilitate collection development and library assessment projects.

Monitors and maintains statistics based on statistics reports provided by vendors, proxy, integrated library system reports, and from reports provided by the State Consortium.

Assists in the promotion of electronic resource usage by procuring and distributing materials provided by vendors, providing information about new titles and resources, and educating staff about training opportunities.

Monthly - 5% : Maintains licenses for Broward College licensed products. Coordinates licenses and terms of agreements from vendors under consideration.

Informs staff of relevant terms and conditions governing the usage of active resources. Collaborates with management to get new licenses through the approval process.

Maintains access to licenses for electronic resources collected by the consortium. Customizes resources and access to resources by using administrative portals to customize and optimize user interfaces, sorting preferences, relevancy ranking choices, and other configuration options.

Establishes and maintains good relationships with vendors’ sales and support teams and with our consortium partners. Maintains vendor contact information and vendor administration, and product site access information.

Monthly - 20% : Serves on the Collection Development committee and supports its activities relating to electronic resources.

Tracks changes to content, licenses, cost, and approval for new and renewal orders. Retrieves information from vendors, sets up trials, and provides evaluations of products under consideration.

Provides periodic reports on usage statistics. Assists in consortia acquisition projects. Works with Senior Library Specialists to maintain and track E-Resource purchases and subscriptions.

Monthly - 5% : Develops and assists in implementing quality processes to assure ongoing access to resources. Confirms access to new resources.

Maintains and monitors the schedule of periodic record loads and performs spot checks on record loads performed by the consortium.

Collaborates with internal and external partners to implement E-Resources components such as authentication and statistics collection software.

  • Other - 10% : Provides guidance and training for other employees. Makes recommendations regarding short-term approach and methods.
  • Other - 5% : Serves on local, consortia, state, or national committees or projects. Participates actively in appropriate professional societies and conferences.

Remains current with trends in scholarly publishing and electronic resource management.

  • Other - 5% : Provides technical expertise, problem resolution, and support to the department.
  • Other - 5% : Performs related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

  • Knowledge of authentication software, link resolver software, and statistics software and tools.
  • High level of analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to conduct research into security issues as required.
  • Ability to manage and plan for technology changes in a dynamic environment through formal project planning methodology and quality assurance programs.
  • Workday security skills necessary for this role include Security Design, User Profile Setup, Role Creation and Setup, Query Security, Intersection Security, Password Controls, Security Auditing, and Security Research.
  • Requires the application of broad and deep technical knowledge in area of specialization
