Job Description : POSITION GOALS
- The Telecommunications Technician coordinates phone and voice mail services for all college users; demonstrates a thorough understanding of the capabilities and features of modern telephone switches, call accounting system, telephone billing and equipment purchase, and phone / voice mail training. Analyzes telecomm and network-related issues / problems reported by end-users. Installs, maintains, and troubleshoots the college's Local Area Network (LAN), Wide Area Network (WAN), data-communications, microcomputers and all peripheral equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Ability to work directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic and socio economic backgrounds.Install, repair, support and maintain equipment generally located on all three campuses. This equipment may include but is not limited to voice equipment, data equipment, network equipment, and video equipment.Installs, troubleshoots, repairs and maintains telecommunications equipment.Troubleshoots communications systems to determine if the problem is telephone hardware or cable. Assists with monitoring budgetary requirements for equipment replacement. Participates in development of emergency plans to deal with catastrophic events.Develops and / or establishes strong relationships with service providers. Oversees testing and evaluates hardware and software to determine efficiency, reliability, and compatibility with existing systems. Performs preventative maintenance and minor equipment repairs.Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.Provides hands-on assistance and troubleshoots all phone equipment failures and service issues for all campus users.Provides training and technical expertise on usage of phone equipment and the voice mail system.Programs voice mailboxes for individual users and department trees and troubleshoots voice mail issues and system failures.Ensures that departmental procedures are followed to track inventory throughout the campus to provide warranty cross-reference; researches and accounts for any missing items.Provides assistance to campus users regarding delivery of equipment.Works under immediate supervision of the Telecommunications area and Director of Use Services.Minimum Qualifications :
High School Diploma or equivalent required.Minimum 5 years' experience as a network cable installer. Understanding of telephony topology, experienced with terminating copper cables, POTs lines, Telco truck lines, outside & inside cables, plus in DMARCs.Understanding of how Telecom carriers and COs are involved is preferred.Demonstrate experience implementing local area networks, also troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.Excellent interpersonal skills with a focus on customer service.Job Category : Administrative / Staff
