This position supports the United States Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS) in administering the nation's lawful immigration system.

Hourly rate : $18.16 (set by SCA)

This position is regulated by the Department of Labor (DOL) as a Service Contract Act (SCA) contract, which governs pay, benefits, and leave entitlements.

Job Description

As a Biometric Technician (BT), you will support USCIS Application Support Center (ASC) operations in Grand Rapids, MI. Amentum provides all necessary training. This is an on-call (casual) position, requiring availability Monday through Friday, 7 : 45 am to 4 : 15 pm, for substitute coverage. Hours are not guaranteed, and employees are on an "as needed" basis, suitable for those seeking supplemental income and flexibility.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Complete biometric registration for applicants seeking legal immigration.
  • Ensure all entrants are approved applicants or visitors, managing crowd control and enforcing policies.
  • Provide front-line customer service, representing Amentum and USCIS.

Responsibilities Highlights

  • Provide high-quality customer service with a friendly demeanor, respecting applicants and safeguarding PII.
  • Perform biometric processing, including capturing fingerprints, photos, and signatures within established times.
  • Screen applicants for valid appointment notices and IDs.
  • Use crowd control barriers for organized entry.
  • Inspect applicants and belongings; ask health-related questions during health crises.
  • Conduct facility checks and report concerns.
  • Assist law enforcement or emergency responders when needed.
  • Manage administrative tasks such as tracking processing times, maintaining logs, and completing paperwork.

    • Required Qualifications

  • Ability to obtain and maintain facility credentials (US Citizenship required).
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Fluent in English (speaking and writing).
  • Ability to stand for long periods, hold and grasp hands for fingerprinting.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with the public.
  • Basic computer skills and typing ability.
  • Complete biometrics training and certification within 60 days.
