Under the direct supervision of the Section Chief, the Engineer III :
Completes assigned tasks related to the County's participation in FEMA's National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and Community Rating System (CRS). Tracks and documents activities required to maintain the county's CRS rating class. Provides coordination for NFIP Community Assistance Visits, CRS recertifications, and CRS verifications. Provides engineering review of floodplain studies and coordinates with internal and external agencies as needed to ensure compliance with NFIP and CRS requirements. Responds to FEMA flood zone related inquiries from residents and consultants. Maintains FEMA's Digital Flood Insurance Rate Maps (DFIRMs) and provides flood-related information to Land Development Services (LDS). Reviews Letters of Map Amendment (LOMAs), Letters of Map Revision (LOMRs), and Conditional Letters of Map Revision (CLOMRs) and coordinates their submission to FEMA.
Reviews flood plans and drainage studies to ensure compliance with FEMA and county code requirements. Reviews assigned stormwater capital improvement project plans to ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and county requirements. Participates in the consultant selection process, negotiation of task orders in areas of work responsibility, managing engineering service contracts, and administration of task orders in accordance with DPWES contracting requirements.

Employment Standards
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following :
(Click on the aforementioned link to learn how Fairfax County interprets equivalencies for "Any combination, experience, and training equivalent to") Graduation from a four-year college or university accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technologies with a bachelor's degree in the appropriate engineering or architectural field; plus, three years of progressively responsible professional experience in the appropriate engineering or architectural field.

The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and a driver's license check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
Physically and mentally able to use all applicable personal protective equipment in an outdoor environment; including hardhat, eye protection, hearing protection, safety footwear, long pants, sleeved shirt, and personal fall arrest harness. Work is generally sedentary and requires the ability to operate keyboard driven equipment. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
