Scope of Work & Purpose : LIFT is seeking a digital engineering specialist to lead our computational and software-driven approaches to ceramics and composites development. The ideal candidate will build and implement digital frameworks that accelerate materials innovation while working closely with our experimental test and manufacturing teams to validate and refine computational models.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop computational models and simulation for predicting ceramic and composite material properties and performance.
- Create digital workflows for materials design, leveraging multi-scale modeling from atomistic to component-level simulations.
- Implement materials informatics approaches to discover new ceramic and composite formulations.
- Design and optimize virtual testing environments to reduce physical testing requirements.
- Develop digital twins of materials, manufacturing, and components to predict performance and degradation over time.
- Build software platforms that connect materials design, simulation, and physical testing data.
- Develop APIs and integration methods for seamless data exchange between computational tools.
- Create visualization tools and dashboards for materials data exploration and analysis.
- Partner with physical test teams to validate computational models and calibrate simulations.
- Work with manufacturing engineers to digitize and optimize production processes and implement data-driven quality control.
- Translate fundamental materials understanding into computational frameworks.
- Lead digital transformation initiatives across the materials development lifecycle.
- Document digital workflows to enable knowledge sharing across teams.
- Operate, with other team members, ceramics and CMC manufacturing equipment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
A degree in Materials, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with 3-5 years' experience.Experience with materials modeling software (PAM-COMPOSITES, OpenFOAM, ParaView, GENOA, Abaqus, LS-Dyna, etc).Experience with multiscale modeling (RVE, reduced order modeling, performance modeling).Experience with programming, scientific computing, and object-oriented programming in C++ and Python is a plus.Experience working in collaborative coding environment and using tools for version control, continuous integration, and model / code commits / reviews.Experience developing routines around software application programming interfaces (APIs).Experience in software chaining, CAE tool interface(s), GUI construction, I / O and hardware control is a plus.Successful track record to ideating, planning, and executing technical work in an R&D or manufacturing environment preferred.Experience with hands-on equipment operations, high temperature processing is a bonus.Ability to operate within a project-based technology development environment.Ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams and multiple simultaneous projects.Ability to operate within and successfully interface with many stakeholders including LIFT members and end customers.Good oral and written communication skills.Ability to function effectively within a project team.BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES
