Purpose

To serve as the Director of Development, Major Gifts, on the Blanton development team. Successful candidates will work closely with the Blanton's Executive Director of Development and focus on identifying and cultivating new donor prospects with a capacity of $500,000+ with an emphasis on soliciting gifts of $50,000 and above.

Responsibilities

Maintain an understanding of the Blanton's priorities, vision and mission.

Build and carry an active portfolio of 40-80 well qualified prospective and active donors with a capacity of $500,000+ and solicit gifts to support operations and grow the endowment through pledged and planned monetary gifts.

Engage in qualification, strategy, development, relationship building, and closing of major gifts at $50,000+ for Blanton Museum of Art through annual gifts and endowment of staff positions, programs and priorities of the museum.

Consistently produce $1,500,000+ per year in contributed revenue that is available within the fiscal year as well as building endowment funding.

Participate in goal setting, proposal preparation, strategy development, and stewardship as required for donors in the managed portfolio and as requested.

Successfully and consistently deliver funding proposals with a focus on engaging new donors.

Record timely reports, letters, proposals, or gift agreements following a donor contact.

Utilize fundraising databases and prospecting tools. Maintain appropriate electronic documentation on a timely basis, including engagement activities, proposal tracking, contact reports, donor strategies and forecasting.

Effectively work with, communicate with, and collaborate with museum leadership, curators, and other development staff to develop museum-wide funding opportunities to reach annual budgetary and longterm campaign goals.

Work collaboratively, proactively, and in a professional, service-oriented manner with all departments and development staff to further goals and mission of the Blanton.

Performs related duties as assigned. May work on assigned projects.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree.

Demonstrated ability to execute successful full-cycle donor strategy.

A minimum of three years' experience in major gifts fundraising or related fields.

High degree of emotional intelligence.

Demonstrated ability to show tenacity and be nimble.

Ability to drive results.

Highly effective communication skills (written, verbal, interpersonal).

Ability to think strategically and creatively and work well under pressure.

Project management skills.

Capable of working independently while also engaging in collaboration between teams.

Experience working with VIP, Altru or other similar CRM.

Ability to travel frequently to visit prospects and donors.

Ability to use discretion and maintain integrity and professionalism.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

More than the required years of fundraising and / or planned giving experience.

Museum or cultural organization fundraising experience is highly preferred.

Graduate degree and / or CFRE certification.

Experience working in a large-scale complex academic research university.

Knowledge of UT Austin policies and procedures.

Salary Range

$110,000 + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

Standard office environment.

Employment Eligibility :

Retirement Plan Eligibility :

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
