What to Expect
Tesla is looking for a highly motivated Body in White (BIW) Manufacturing Engineer to contribute to the development and deployment of Body in White manufacturing equipment and processes within our new Semi Manufacturing Factory located in Sparks, Nevada. The powertrain and energy product business segment are the heart of Tesla, and this is an exciting opportunity to work directly on the central challenge with the new Semi electric vehicles - improving cost and margins. Tesla is a demanding and fast-paced environment where you will work with a highly motivated team on extremely challenging projects. In addition to developing manufacturing equipment and processes, the BIW Manufacturing Engineer will work closely with Production Engineering and Operations, Semi Design Engineering, Quality, Safety and internal / external integrators to install, upgrade and optimize automated manufacturing systems. This position will be responsible for managing the design, procurement, installation and ramp of medium to large-scale manufacturing systems, as well as providing technical guidance for others.
What You'll Do
- Coordinate with other engineers and manage complete manufacturing line projects with multiple work centers
- Develop line layouts
- Develop specifications and RFQ's for custom automation equipment
- Develop equipment testing plans and validate new equipment and fixtures for production implementation
- Collaborate with internal and external equipment integrators on custom automation equipment design
- Drive design of production workstations for ergonomics and efficiency
- Oversee equipment installation and coordinate with building and utilities team
- Ramp new production equipment to meet the designed throughput and handoff to sustaining production team
What You'll Bring
Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Mechatronics Engineering, or equivalent experience2-3 years of manufacturing engineering experienceExperience developing and validating (SPC, Gage R&R, DOE etc.) new BIW manufacturing processes for large companies with production capacity over 100,000 units per year or moreExperience with industrial engineering concepts-such as line balancing and timing charts-on manufacturing lines producing 1,000 or more assemblies per weekExperience transitioning vehicle products from low volume prototypes to large-scale productionExperience solving problems related to Overall Equipment Effectiveness (Availability, Yield, Performance)Understanding of manufacturing equipment safety systems (Safety PLCs, safety category requirements, robot safety, safety guarding, light curtains, LOTO, etc)Experience developing layouts in AutoCADExperience designing mechanical equipment, fixturing, and tooling in CAD (SolidWorks preferred, Catia is also a plus)Compensation and Benefits
