This is a key role in our newsroom and a great opportunity for someone keen on delving into how artificial intelligence, ambient dictation and other groundbreaking technologies are quickly evolving the business models for health systems, hospitals and insurers during a time of unprecedented change in the $5 trillion U.S. healthcare industry. We are seeking an astute and enterprising reporter eager to find new ways of telling stories. The right candidate has good news judgment and is able to break news and juggle daily stories along with analysis and enterprise. We have a sophisticated audience that includes industry leaders at hospitals, insurers, physician groups, tech firms and other vendors and policymakers. Modern Healthcare is based in Chicago but will consider remote work from a state listed on our career site. See below for a list of work locations and our hybrid policy if within a commutable distance from an office. You will be expected to work Central Time Zone hours if remote.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field
• A minimum of two years of reporting experience
• Minimum of three recent clips
• Ability to meet deadlines and file clean, concise and comprehensive copy on complex issues with a high degree of accuracy, balance and readability
• Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
• Must have attention to detail, industry knowledge and the ability to interpret data
• Ability to digest large amounts of information, "see the story," and execute with urgency as needed
• Ability to work remotely while keeping your editors and colleagues informed of your assignments and developments

Job candidates most likely to excel in this position will be ones who are self-starters motivated by excellence, are hungry / competitive and enjoy being part of a team. This position is exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not eligible for overtime pay.

Pay Transparency Disclosure : The estimated salary range for this position is $60,000 to $80,000. The final salary offering will take into account a wide range of factors, including experience, accomplishments and location. In addition to base salary, Crain also offers competitive benefits including retirement plan savings contributions and bonus opportunities based on individual and company performance.

Environmental Demands

Many positions will also include work done in the field, including conducting in-person interviews, attending work-related events, meeting with sources or clients. Travel to cover news stories / events, meetings with clients, and to our geographically separated offices may be required. It is the nature of many positions to experience non-standard working hours and be on-call when needed for responding to email, meeting with clients, attending work-related events, story development or breaking news. Most employees perform work Monday through Friday, although early-morning, evening or weekend shifts may be required. Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of many Crain jobs and are subject to change. Physical activities will include frequent in-person or virtual interactions. The typical physical requirements are light work-exerting up to 25 lbs of force occasionally and / or up to 10 lbs frequently and may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion. Some positions will have additional physical requirements, including exerting up to 50 lbs of force to move and / or carry equipment, supplies, files, or other materials as the role requires.
