Construction Superintendent 2 / 3- Term Position- ALDWP Project Management Office

What You Will Do

The Construction Superintendent team at the Los Alamos National Laboratory invites candidates to apply for a Construction Superintendent position to direct work activities in the ALDWP Project Management Office for Balance of Plant. The Construction Superintendent will be responsible for directing the sequence of work for multi-discipline, bargaining unit craft workers, operating within assigned areas. Will ensure that facility modification continuously adhere to engineering designs, engineering document control, specifications, quality standards, schedules, material procurement and budgets.

This position will be filled at either the Superintendent 2 / Superintendent 3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Construction Superintendent 2 : 94,500-154,600

The Construction Superintendent 2 will work closely with System Engineers, Construction Managers, Superintendent Leads, and Project Managers. Will work independently but will be under the oversight of a Construction Manager 3 or 4 or Superintendent 3 or 4. Project size is typically

In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, may serve as a Control Account Manager (CAM) responsible for planning, budgeting, managing and controlling costs and schedule performance for a project or subproject and serve as a point of contact for project controls, including account scope, schedule, budget, and technical performance. Ensure work packages realistically represent the duration and budget necessary to perform work and perform variance analysis reviews, determine cause and effect of schedule or cost variance and define achievable corrective action plans. May be required to present project management performance plans, status updates, trends or issues to federal sponsors. May be required to work a flexible schedule i.e. weekends, or after hours.

Minimum Job Requirements :

Technical Leadership

Demonstrated experience and skill with leadership. Experience with organizing, directing, and controlling a team in a unionized labor environment.

Technical Excellence

Knowledge of and experience with facility maintenance and / or construction management including systems engineering design and maintenance, safety / authorization basis, configuration management programs, work control and facility control systems. Understanding of work hazards, safety practices, operating configuration, and lock-out / tag-out policies and procedures. Demonstrated ability to understand and interpret various physical, mechanical, and electrical documents, blueprints, drawings, and schematics.

Personal Leadership

Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain strong and effective customer engagement. Demonstrated experience interfacing with program, project, and line management to develop clear and executable action plans to address issues or needs. Provide personal leadership, direction and technical advice regarding health, safety and environmental compliance. Demonstrated skill in identifying problem areas, investigating alternative solutions, and determining actions to be performed on problems affecting maintenance programs.

Communication

Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Demonstrated skill in the preparation and presentation of oral and written reports. Demonstrated ability to utilize and manipulate a computerized work management system in maintaining and tracking job activities including the coordination of materials and equipment delivery with vendors and suppliers. Ability to promote an open communication environment to develop mutual trust and teamwork.

Additional Job Requirements for Superintendent 3 :

In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires :

• Advanced knowledge of all phases and complexity levels of construction projects, upgrades, renovations and D&D. Lead constructability reviews of the design process and the potential impacts to construction cost and schedule. Extensive knowledge and experience with facility maintenance and / or construction management including systems engineering design and maintenance, safety / authorization basis, configuration management programs, work control and facility control systems.
• Extensive knowledge and understanding of collective bargaining agreements related to all trades.
• Extensive understanding of work hazards, safety practices, operating configuration, and lock-out / tag-out policies and procedures. Demonstrated ability to understand and interpret various physical, mechanical, and electrical documents, blueprints, drawings, and schematics.

Education / Experience at lower level : Position requires a bachelor's degree in a related field; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience related to the position.

Education / Experience at higher level : Position requires a bachelor's degree in a related field and 2 years of relevant experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the position.

Work Location : The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Work Schedule : May be required to work a flexible schedule i.e. weekends, or after hours.

Position commitment : Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.
