Motor Vehicle Operator
The Office of Chief Medical Examiner investigates cases of persons who die within New York City from criminal violence, by accident, by suicide, suddenly when in apparent health, when unattended by a physician, in a correctional facility or in any suspicious or unusual manner or where an application is made pursuant to law for a permit to cremate a body of a person. The MVO will participate in day to day motor vehicle operations of the Mortuary and Transportation department. Duties will include but are not limited to : - Assist in the monitoring of the utilization of motor vehicles in order to initiate and maintain efficient scheduling of vehicle usage for pick-up and dispatching of OCME personnel and equipment. - Assist in the administering in the appropriate programs related to inspection, safety and safe driving, and proper vehicle and materials handling. - Assist in the investigation of motor vehicle accidents and accidents to personnel, preparing accident reports and follow up documentation related to maintenance and mechanical issue response. - Keeps all equipment, tools and vehicles clean, functioning, and safeguarded in appropriate locations and ready for immediate deployment. Performs vehicles spot checks and basic vehicle maintenance (i.e. changing tires, checking and replenishing fuel and fluid levels, and interior and exterior vehicle washing) as needed. - Transports OCME personnel, packages, mail and specimens. - Assists with City Burial operations as needed. - Maintains equipment tracking software to manage and maintain motor transport inventory. - Provides logistic support for forensic-disaster response equipment during disaster response and training, and maintains competence in operation of all agency vehicles and machines. - Is available for 24 / 7 emergency response to incidents involving, or with the potential for, mass fatalities. - Prepares reports and keeps records. - Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications : Education and Experience Requirements : There are no formal education or experience requirements. Driver License Requirement : By the time you are appointed to this position, you must have a motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York. If you have moving violations, license suspension(s) or an accident record, you may be disqualified. This license must be maintained for the duration of your employment.
