Riley Construction Co., Inc. is seeking an experienced Concrete Superintendent to join our team in a field position. This individual would work at various job sites through southeastern WI and northern IL and be based out of the Kenosha, WI office.
The Concrete Superintendent is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing all concrete operations. This role works closely with estimators, project managers, project superintendents, and the general superintendent to plan manpower, resources, equipment, and schedules. The Concrete Superintendent ensures high-quality workmanship, develops and mentors field crews, and drives efficiency through detailed planning.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
Plan, schedule, and oversee all concrete-related work, including foundations and slabs, on large and small commercial projects
- Assist and collaborate with estimators during preconstruction to review scope, budgets, and estimates for upcoming projects
- Develop manpower plans, crew sizes, and production schedules to meet project requirements and deadlines
- Review and mark up project drawings to phase and sequence concrete work efficiently
- Coordinate closely with project superintendents to align on project specifics and integrate concrete work into overall schedules
- Establish production trackers using labor hours and units of measure for project teams to monitor progress and performance
- Plan and coordinate resources, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors, to ensure readiness for upcoming work
- Coordinate with material suppliers and subcontractors to review materials and secure delivery schedules and optimize workflow
- Review material submittals such as concrete mix designs and rebar shop drawings to verify compliance with project specifications.
- Work directly with the General Superintendent to forecast and coordinate manpower needs
- Participate in hiring, training, and developing concrete finishers, carpenters, and laborers
- Mentor and support crews in placing, finishing, and general concrete techniques to maintain quality and efficiency
- Conduct regular site visits to oversee concrete operations, provide quality assurance, and ensure compliance with project standards
- Apply detailed knowledge of layout and concrete practices, including advanced layout tools such as Trimble systems
- Collaborate with the construction technology department to evaluate and implement new technology, equipment, and process improvements
- Oversees foremen and leadmen and maintains order, safety and cleanliness on the job site, including weekly safety toolbox talks.
- Attend and participate in weekly job safety and progress meetings. Occasionally the Superintendent is required to run these meetings.
- Direct contact with owners, clients, and architects.
- Reviews and directs changes on job site, such as trade work changes, RFIs, changes to the construction documents, etc.
- Confers with supervisory personnel and labor representatives to resolve complaints and grievances within workforce.
- Confers with architects, engineers and design personnel to plan and resolve constructability issues.
- Coordinates with local authorities and inspectors if needed.
- Maintains labor and equipment cost control and works with project manager to accurately project cost on the project.
- Prepares or reviews reports on progress, materials used and costs, and adjusts work schedules as indicated by reports.
- Ability to complete a six week look ahead schedule and manpower sheet and submit weekly to Riley's General Superintendent.
- Complete accurate documentation on daily work logs, time and material tickets, timecards, etc.
- Completes timecards for onsite Riley trade personnel.
- Conducts weekly foreman's meetings with onsite crews and subcontractors to coordinate the work daily.
- Conducts post-construction reviews and "crew regroup" meetings once job is finished.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES :
Ability to directly supervise 1 - 40 employees, depending on the size of the project, including Riley personnel and subcontractors. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.QUALIFICATIONS :
High School diploma or equivalentMinimum of 10 years of concrete experience on large commercial projectsExtensive knowledge and experience with concrete placement techniques for foundations and slabs, forming systems, finishing, and layout practicesStrong leadership skills with proven ability to mentor and develop field crewsProficiency in reading plans and specifications, project planning, scheduling, and resource managementFamiliarity with construction technology and willingness to adopt new systems and processesCompletion of the Supervisory Training Program (STP) modules sponsored by the AGC, preferred.We offer a comprehensive benefits package, pleasant working environment and team atmosphere.
