Software Validation Engineer — Automotive QA
Location : Troy, MI 48007
Pay : $42-$45 / hr (depending on experience)
Type : Full-Time / Contract-to-Hire
About the Role
We're seeking a Software Validation Engineer to support quality assurance for advanced automotive diagnostic, braking, and embedded control systems.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute functional test plans for automotive and heavy-duty software applications
- Perform validation testing for embedded control features (e.g., ABS, DRP, AEB, TCS, HBA) using tools such as Vector CANalyzer, CAPL scripts, and Vision ATI
- Analyze vehicle and software logs, identify issues, and confirm proper feature functionality
- Provide detailed feedback to Engineering teams on product failures, defects, and non-conformance to requirements
- Modify, compile, and flash sandbox versions of software for bug fix testing and validation
- Create and maintain product requirements, test specifications, and validation databases
- Support field installations, troubleshooting, and on-board diagnostic (OBD) system testing (SAE J1708 / J1939 protocols)
- Prepare installation guides and technical documentation for validated systems
- Maintain test reports, defect tracking, and lifecycle management through tools like Windchill or Cradle
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and represent the company with OEM customers on software validation activities
Required Qualifications
Associate's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (Bachelor's preferred)2+ years of experience in automotive or heavy-duty software development, testing, or QAStrong knowledge of SAE J1708 / J1939, OBD systems, and diagnostic scan toolsUnderstanding of automotive powertrain, braking, ABS, and / or transmission systemsFamiliarity with electronic theory and basic circuit analysisPreferred Qualifications
Hands-on experience with :Vector tools (CANalyzer, CANoe, CAPL scripting)Vision ATI for data recording and calibrationGreenlight Professional Services
