As TAX MANAGER (direct hire) , you will oversee the day-to-day operations of theTax Department in Fort Worth, supervise a small team of senior staff and associates, and serve as a primary client point of contact. Will manage complex individual, partnership, corporate, and fiduciary engagements, drive process improvements, and mentor junior team members. This role reports directly to the Managing Partner and offers a clear path toward Senior Manager or Equity Partner, depending on performance and business development contributions.
Key Responsibilities
Client Management & Delivery :
- Manage a portfolio of 50–70 tax clients (individuals, partnerships, S-corps, C-corps, trusts / estates)
- Review all tax returns for accuracy, compliance, and tax-minimization strategies.
- Lead tax-planning meetings, identify client opportunities, and propose value-added services.
Team Leadership & Development :
Supervise 2–3 Senior Tax Accountants and 3–4 Tax Associates : delegate assignments, review workpapers, and ensure quality control.Provide ongoing coaching, conduct performance reviews, and facilitate CPE / training sessions.Foster a collaborative environment that encourages knowledge sharing, efficient workflow, and innovation.Technical Oversight & Process Improvement :
Oversee preparation and review of federal and state (multi-state) tax returns using UltraTax CS and Excel-based tools.Stay current with changes in tax legislation (e.g., IRC updates, TCJA provisions) and communicate implications to the team.Lead or participate in technology initiatives (e.g., rolling out workflow software, implementing new e-signature platforms).Develop and update internal checklists, templates, and best practices to improve efficiency and minimize risk.Business Development & Practice Growth :
Assist Managing Partner(s) in identifying and pursuing new business opportunities—attend client meetings, prepare proposals, and deliver presentations.Represent the firm at local networking events (TXCPA-Tarrant County, AICPA) and maintain professional affiliations.Mentor staff on identifying cross-sell opportunities (e.g., estate planning, accounting outsourcing, advisory services).Required Qualifications - Licenses & Experience
CPA license in Texas (active and in good standing).5+ years of public accounting experience, at least 2 years in a supervisory or review-level role.Proven track record serving high-net-worth individuals, partnerships, corporations, and / or estates.Technical Skills
Expert proficiency with UltraTax CS (or equivalent tax suite), QuickBooks, and advanced Excel (pivot tables, complex formulas).Strong understanding of federal and multi-state income tax laws, including pass-through entity planning and 1031 exchanges.Comfortable with document management systems (e.g., ShareFile, DocuSign) and firm CRM (e.g., CCH Axcess).Preferred Qualifications
Master’s in Taxation or related graduate degree.Prior Experience in Oil and Gas and / or Real EstatePrior experience leading workflow / technology implementations in a CPA environment.Background in business development or client pitching; comfortable presenting to C-suite and board members.Compensation & Benefits :
$115,000–$140,000 (commensurate with experience) plus year-end bonus potential tied to department performance.
