Duties
Duties include but are not limited to :
Corporate Health and Safety Responsibilities
- Conduct oneself with integrity, considering the Company established business mission, vision, and values, to provide solution-based benefits for Star of the West, its employees and its business partners.
- Conduct periodic required training at all sites including but not limited to; New Hire Orientation, HAZCOM, PPE, Storm Water, confined space entry, lockout tagout, hearing conservation, ergonomics, powered industrial vehicles, electrical safety, blood-borne pathogens, respiratory protection, etc.
- Provide guidance, develop tools and audit facilities to assist locations throughout Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, North Dakota and New York in achieving desired compliance related outcomes.
- Conducting environmental health and safety compliance inspections and preparing inspection reports for Star of the West Milling locations
- Assist Director in conducting regular, well-organized and thorough reviews of Written Programs, Company Policies, Department Functions and Risk Controls
- Develop Environmental Health and Safety Training Material to be used at facilities for employee training by EHS and facility staff
- Assist Director in the maintenance and implementation of Hearing Conservation Program / Testing, Respiratory Protection Program- (Medical Questionnaires, Fit Testing, Equipment Use and Replacement), Fall Protection Program- Annual Inspection of all Devices, Confined Space Entry and Lockout Tagout
- Provide Outreach to community emergency response organizations such as local fire departments, public safety and Local Emergency Planning Committees (LEPCs)
- Participate and Lead Safety Committee meetings at locations
Corporate Compliance Responsibilities
Maintain accurate and up-to-date measurement, recordkeeping and reporting processes, including but not limited to OSHA recordkeeping (state and federal), regulatory agency reporting, corporate reporting, key measures reporting, etcComplete Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Facility RegistrationsAssist Director in the implementation of all Food Defense Activities at FDA Regulated facilitiesSubmit Accurate Annual Pesticide Production Reports from locations and assist locations in compliance of EPA repackaging activities (reporting, mini-bulk testing, containment)Assist Director and Agronomy Facilities in compliance of MDARD Licensing- Fertilizer, Bulk Storage Registrations, Pesticide Application Business license, Restricted Use Pesticide (RUP) FunctionsSubmit Accurate, Timely SARA Title III Tier II Reports at regulated facilities.Assist Director in the implementation and management of all OSHA Process Safety Management requirements for Flour Milling DivisionAssist Director in the implementation and management of all Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Risk Management Plan (RMP) requirements for Flour Milling DivisionProvide plan development, sampling activities and implementation of Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans at Richville and Frankenmuth facilitiesAssist Director in the development and implementation of Dust Hazard Analysis ProgramCorporate Operational Responsibilities
Manage and Provide training and outreach of Operational Data Platform, RCI / Dekra for corporate and facility recordkeeping and reporting functionsSubmit accurate, timely incident reports into Insurance reporting portalManage the appropriate purchase and supply of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) for Facilities.Complete Contractor Orientation meetings with contractors engaged in Projects or periodic maintenance services at facilities.Participate in Emergency Response ActivitiesParticipate in Merger and Acquisition (M&A) activities and other projects as assigned by Management TeamProject Management, while managing change with deliberate speed, as determined by Management TeamAssist Director in the management of company Workers Compensation claimsManagement of Learning Management System in UKGMinimum Requirements
Computer proficiency in MS Office required.Must be a team player with effective verbal and written communication skills.Ability to deliver results through others.Completion or willing to complete 40 Hazwopper Certification, Michigan Industrial Storm Water Certified Operator, Responsible Ag AuditorStrong interpersonal and communication skillsAbility to manage and meet competing deadlines and prioritiesAbility to define problems, collect data and communicate effectively with employees and government agencies. Comfortable speaking to groups and teaching in a classroom environment.Ability to read, analyze and interpret regulations or other industry documents.BS degree in environmental sciences, environmental / safety management or related discipline is preferredMust be able to sit, stand, kneel, bend, walk, climb stairs, climb ladders, work at heights, wear PPE and emergency response equipment as needed,Ability to work flexible hours and overtime as requiredWilling and able to travel to Star of the West Locations within operational area at times requiring overnight staysPhysical Demands
