Full Time Open Until Filled. $20.23 to $22.25 hourly. Actual salary negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Central Area / Cocoa / Travels Countywide. Work schedule is Monday through Friday 7 : 00 a.m. to 3 : 30 p.m. Performs entry-level crafts and trades work in the operation and routine maintenance of heavy equipment and may perform related manual labor. Employee may rotate among various pieces of equipment or may be permanently assigned to a specific piece of equipment.
Requirements
One (1) year of experience in the operation and routine maintenance of heavy equipment used to maintain drainage systems; OR six (6) months of on-the-job training within the County in the operation of minor heavy equipment and be able to achieve departmental standards for operating equipment; OR successful completion of a six (6) month heavy equipment operator training program from an accredited school. Successful completion of coursework in heavy equipment operation at a post-secondary school may be substituted on a year for year basis for a maximum of one year (1,080 class hours [1 school year] = 1 year of experience; 120 class hours = 1 month of experience). Additional qualifying education and / or experience may be substituted on a year for year basis. Experience establishing grade from an established benchmark and constructing drainage swales and / or ditches is preferred. Experience utilizing a mobile device and electronic work management system to document all work performed is preferred.
Must possess, or obtain prior to employment, a valid Florida Class B Commercial Driver's license and maintain said license during the term of employment. Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in the safe and effective operation of a Gradall Excavator, or other similar excavator, and be able to pass a skills test. This is heavy physical work that involves exposure to water, dirt, muck, dense vegetation, working in and around moving traffic and machinery, and extreme weather conditions. In the event of a hurricane, major storm, natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee will be required to perform emergency duties as directed.
