Energy Plant Operator Lead
GENERAL SUMMARY :
Responsible for the operation and maintenance of the energy plant and assists the engineering manager in the day-to-day direction of energy plant operations. Takes a lead role in the inspection, installation and ongoing maintenance and repair of energy plant and other mechanical systems at the all Bryan Health campuses. Utilizes extensive knowledge, experience, troubleshooting techniques and equipment manuals to identify, analyze and complete all preventative maintenance, repair and adjustment of steam, condensate, chilled water, hot water, and soft water producing equipment and HVAC equipment. Assigns daily work schedules and ensures project assignments are completed through individual or cooperative efforts.

3. Sets up and assigns PM’s and work orders in the CMMS. Ensures timely PM completion.

8. Assumes lead role in coordinating and preparing boilers for internal inspection by the state and insurance carrier.
9. Coordinates contractors working on Energy Plant equipment and other mechanical systems.

12. Assists with the collection and shipment of oils and chemicals for disposal.
13. Completes work defined by the job descriptions of Energy Plant Operator I and II as required.
14. May respond to emergency-related Energy Plant calls after hours and on weekends; evaluates and initiates repair or notifies appropriate personnel in a manner based on the urgency of the situation.

17. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
18. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
1. Knowledge of steam generation, heating, air conditioning, water conditioning and electrical equipment and systems.
2. Knowledge of occupational hazards and precautions related to energy plan operations and conditions.
3. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software application relevant to work functions.
4. Knowledge of applicable codes governing energy plant production and operation
5. Skill in the maintenance and operation of energy plant equipment, materials and tools.
6. Skill in the use of portable metal working tools, electrician tools and test equipment.
7. Ability to perform work under stressful and emergency situations
8. Ability to provide direction and support to coworkers.
9. Ability to organize and prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.
10. Ability to assist in the installation of ductwork and the maintenance of air conditioning and heating equipment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
High school diploma or equivalency required. Coursework / technical training in engineering systems preferred. Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience or an associate degree and five (5) years working with boiler or energy plant systems required. Demonstrated leadership in a technical environment is required.
OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS :
Completed Underground Storage Tank Class A Operator Training required. Completed DOT Hazmat Training required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
(Physical Requirements are based on federal criteria and assigned by Human Resources upon review of the Principal Job Functions.)
(DOT) - Characterized as medium work requiring exertion of 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and / or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and / or a greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Long periods of standing, lifting, walking, bending, pushing, pulling, climbing and crawling with occasional exposure to high voltage, high temperatures and heights from 25 to 120 feet, dust and noise and exposure to wet and damp places. Job requires working in cramped, awkward positions in sometimes uncomfortable locations. Regular exposure to various chemicals and heavy equipment.
