Position Definition
Position Definition : This position requires a creative and technology savvy team player who works under the direct supervision of the department Supervisor, but may also report to department librarians as directed by the Supervisor, to perform a variety of duties at the adult reference desk and in the history room, in addition to a variety of non-public duties that affect the quality of services provided to the public.

Ability to acquire a working knowledge of professional library methods, reference resources and practices, regulations and procedures pertaining to library responsibilities; knowledge of books, authors and reader’s interests; skill in understanding and using computer applications; skill in applying library research methods and practices; ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision; ability to communicate effectively in written and oral expression; ability to deal with the public in a professional and courteous manner; knowledge of and experience with PCs, LANs and the Internet; maintains confidentiality of library users’ records; works in other areas of the library as necessary.
Two years post-secondary education is required. Applicant must be proficient in the Microsoft Office Package and interested in learning new technologies. Two years of work experience in a public library is a plus.
