Job Description
American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a CVICU float pool position requiring at least 2 years of cardiovascular ICU experience and strong skills in cardiac surgery care.
Responsibilities
Work in a 13-bed CVICU float pool within a hospital settingProvides care for post-op CABG, esophagectomy, TAVR, AAA repair, thoracic and vascular surgeries, and post-arrest patientsPatient ratios are 1 : 2 for typical assignments, with 1 : 1 for specific high-acuity interventionsNight shift, 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per weekRequired to work every other weekend and at least 2 or 3 holidays during the assignment if during the holiday seasonMay float to CCU or other ICU level units as neededUtilizes bedside telemetry monitoring and Epic EMR (Cerner experience acceptable)Unit support includes a tech, flex nurse for breaks, floating charge nurse, and 24 / 7 hospitalist, RT, and intensivist supportResponsibilities include hourly rounding, completing white boards, and giving bedside reportMedication and patient safety protocols strictly enforced, including two-nurse narcotic waste verification and secure medication storageEPIC charting orientation provided; two days of general hospital orientation plus a familiarization shift across unitsFirst time travelers are welcome to applyBreaks are required, and phone use on the unit is not permittedMust document pain assessment before and after administering pain medications per established guidelinesAny color scrubs may be worn except blackRequirements
Active WA or compact RN license required (may apply with pending license if documentation is provided)Minimum 2 years of recent cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) experience requiredCertifications required : BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)Proficient in cardiac rhythm interpretation, chest tubes, lumbar drains, vent management, invasive line management (A-line, CVP, Swann), external pacemakers, Bipap, abdominal pressure monitoring, and tracheostomiesExperience with titration of vasoactive and cardiac drips, including Propofol, Precedex, Fentanyl, Versed, Cardizem, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Nicardipine, Levophed, and EpinephrineAbility to pass telemetry competency exam before startMust provide two professional supervisory references prior to startingBenefits
