About the Role
The AudioVisual (AV) Specialist is responsible for the configuration, programming, installation, maintenance, and support of AV systems across multiple campuses and locations.
Responsibilities
- Support, configure, and maintain AV control systems (e.g., Crestron, Extron, Q-SYS) for classrooms, meeting spaces, and event areas.
- Provide Tier 2 / 3 technical support for AV hardware, software, and integrated systems, handling escalated issues and service requests.
- Conduct preventative maintenance, firmware updates, and system testing.
- Monitor AV systems, troubleshoot issues, and perform repairs promptly.
- Create and maintain documentation for AV configurations, troubleshooting steps, and system changes in ticketing and asset management systems.
- Train users and guide IT support teams on AV system use.
- Assist stakeholders with AV projects and resolve related technical concerns.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to identify AV requirements for new projects, renovations, and technology updates.
- Help develop AV specifications, system diagrams, and programming documentation.
- Research and recommend compatible, scalable AV technologies within budget constraints.
- Evaluate vendor proposals and participate in procurement processes for AV solutions.
- Oversee deployment of AV installations, programming, and integration while ensuring compliance with standards.
- Coordinate activities with vendors, contractors, and internal facilities teams during installations.
- Contribute towards developing institutional AV standards and guidelines.
- Participate in long-term planning for AV infrastructure enhancements and emerging technology adoption.
- Provide recommendations for budget forecasting related to AV operations, including maintenance, licensing, and replacement schedules.
- Monitor industry trends, explore cutting-edge technologies, and recommend future AV strategies.
- Suggest professional development opportunities for maintaining up-to-date technical expertise.
- Undertake special projects and other tasks as needed to support operational goals and institutional missions.
Qualifications
Education & Training : Bachelors degree in Electronics, Information Technology, Media Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.Experience : Minimum of 2 years of recent experience installing, programming, or supporting AV systems in enterprise or educational environments. Practical experience with Crestron, Extron, or similar AV control system platforms. Hands-on experience with AV components such as projectors, displays, microphones, cameras, DSPs, and switching equipment.Technical Skills : Proficiency in AV control system programming (e.g., Crestron SIMPL, VTPro-e, Crestron Studio, Extron Global Configurator, Q-SYS Designer). Deep understanding of AV signal flow, audio DSP, and networked AV technologies. Solid foundational knowledge of IT networking principles (IP addressing, VLANs, PoE). Ability to interpret technical diagrams, wiring schematics, and architectural plans.Education & Certifications : Bachelors degree in a related technical field (e.g., Information Systems, Audio Engineering). Certifications such as AVIXA CTS, CTS-I, CTS-D; Crestron Certified Programmer; Extron Control Professional; Q-SYS Level 2 or higher; Dante Level 2 or 3 certification.
Experience : 3+ years of AV / IT experience in higher education, healthcare, or similar complex settings. Familiarity with hybrid conferencing platforms (Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc.) and lecture capture systems. Knowledge of AV-over-IP technologies (e.g., NDI, SDVoE, Crestron NVX). Experience with digital signage, video walls, and event space AV systems.
