Overview
Scope Processing Technician II - Scope Processing - Full Time 8 Hour Evenings (Non-Exempt) (Union). Keck Medicine of USC, Hospital, Los Angeles, California.
The Scope Processing Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the safety, effectiveness, and efficiency of cleaning and disinfection of endoscopes and related equipment used in medical procedures. The Scope Processing Technician follows strict protocols to prevent infections and maintain high standards of patient care.
Essential Duties
- Decontaminate all Endoscopes & Probes according to manufacturer's guidelines (IFU).
- Assemble and deliver intubation trays.
- Ensure all equipment is properly covered prior to transfer to / from the reprocessing area.
- Reprocess Endoscopes utilizing Automated Endoscopic Reprocessor (AER) Units.
- Perform Chemical Monitoring of the GUS System as per Manual High Level Disinfectant (HLD) Instruction for Use (IFU).
- Keep the department clean, maintained, and restocked throughout the shift.
- Attend in-service and department meetings.
- Assist and educate new staff on Endoscopy equipment.
- Apply appropriate technique for donning and doffing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and ensure mandatory use.
- Complete annual skills / competency per hospital policy / procedure.
- Responsible for accurate documentation.
- Communicate effectively in a professional manner.
- Engage in professional growth regarding trends in equipment and high-level disinfection methods through continuing education.
- Participate in department Performance Improvement projects.
- Support continuous and ongoing customer satisfaction through hospital-wide service excellence standards.
- Comply with all Joint Commission and Hospital standards related to the department.
- Travel to other scope processing departments / areas when necessary to meet organizational needs.
- On-call / standby as required.
- Update / provide inventory reports to department and / or stakeholders.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.1 year of experience in an OR / SPD / GI environment.Knowledge of handling and cleaning of Medical Equipment and related support supplies for patients.Preferred Qualifications
Specialized / technical training; graduate of a state approved accredited school of Surgical Technology / Sterile Processing Technician preferred.1 year of endoscopic scope processing experience preferred.Required Licenses / Certifications
Fire Life Safety Training (LA City). If no card on hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date (Required within LA City only).Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER) through an accredited organization (HSPA, CBSPD) – preferred.Sterile Processing Certification current as a Sterile Processing Technician through an accredited organization (HSPA, CBSPD) – preferred.The hourly rate range for this position is $26.39 - $44.88.
