Purpose

To provide academic advising, mentorship and holistic support, including resource referral, to first- and second-year students in the Texas Interdisciplinary Plan (TIP) Scholars program. Supervise peer academic advisors and support the management of a student leadership program. To advance our core mission of fostering wellness, belonging, and success for all students.

Responsibilities

• Academic Advising : Provide academic advising for students individually and in groups. Lead academic advising and orientation meetings, as well as informational sessions for various stakeholders (e.g., parents). Accurately and efficiently guide students in their coursework and graduation planning. Ensure adherence to UT and CNS policies and procedures.
• Student Staff Supervision and Support : Manage Peer Academic Advising staff, including recruitment and training of student employees.
• Teaching and Curriculum Development : Work as part of a TIP instructional team to develop, teach and assess the first-year seminar course and other TIP related courses. This work primarily occurs fall semester.
• Special Project and Committee Work : Coordinate special projects for the betterment of TIP Scholars students and programs, and represent TIP staff on CNS or UT committees.
• Other duties as assigned, including supporting special projects and staffing events within CNS.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and 6 years of professional experience. Demonstrated ability to effectively provide academic and non-academic advising to students. Ability to teach, present, and / or train student audiences. Proven ability to effectively and positively collaborate with others. Superb written and oral communication skills, including presentation skills. Must be student-centered and focused on student success. Ability to anticipate next steps and initiate action without being asked. Proven ability to act with discretion and hold necessary information confidential. Must be able to work in-person on The University of Texas at Austin campus.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in related field. Experience in higher education setting working with student success initiatives. Staff and student program implementation experience.

Employment Eligibility :

Retirement Plan Eligibility :

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
