Position Overview
The Upward Bound Academic Coordinator supports the success of participants during the academic year and the summer residential program. Key responsibilities include : (1) assisting the Director in planning, preparation, implementation and evaluation of project services and activities; (2) providing participants with guidance to enter a postsecondary education program upon high school completion. The position is contingent on satisfactory performance and continued federal funding. Subject to a background investigation.
100% full-time Academic Coordinator. This is a full-time exempt administrative assignment under Embry-Riddle policies and requires a bachelor's degree in education, administration, counseling, or a related field. Experience with budget responsibilities, curriculum development, student assessment, career development, academic advice / guidance, and college admissions / financial aid processes for low-income students of diverse backgrounds is preferred. The coordinator should be able to work effectively with students, parents, community organizations, and the campus community, and will facilitate workshops and classes for students, parents and community members. Strong written and oral communication skills are required. Familiarity with the target area or similar rural community resources is preferred.

Work with the Director to design, implement and coordinate programs and activities to fulfill the following functions :
Outreach & Recruitment : Collaborate with target high school personnel to recruit and assess the need for academic support; develop recruitment presentations; cultivate relationships with community agencies to disseminate program information; establish program awareness by attending informational meetings, school activities and campus / career fairs; collaborate with university offices to recruit students, staff, instructors and tutors; assist in nominating and selecting new participants; assist in developing, organizing and administering the Upward Bound Program Summer Component; schedule and supervise college visitations and field trips; provide insurance and health information to the Wellness Center.Advising : Develop Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for entering participants; administer Academic Corrective Action Plans (ACAP); support low performing and inactive participants; administer standardized tests and assessments; monitor motivation for higher education; assist with college admissions, financial aid, housing, and other related documents; advise on college requirements and academic strategies and assist in college major and career planning; schedule school visits bi-monthly, provide weekly study skill lessons, monitor academic status and attendance, locate missing alumni, and assist with senior college planning.Supplemental Programming / Field Trips : Develop and implement supplementary curriculum; handle requisitions, work orders, reimbursements, and routine documents.Other Program Activities / Events : Maintain grade records, develop and manage participant documents, determine stipends, coordinate college visitations and field trips, and organize workshops, parent meetings and events.Summer Residential Component
Plan and implement summer residential activities; coordinate staff and campus-wide planning; develop staff orientation and training; coordinate parent orientation and summer program orientation for teachers, students, resident advisors, and resident director; facilitate daily staff meetings; coordinate awards banquet; assist with evaluations and surveys; coordinate with campus departments and on-site operations; note : a six-week summer residency on campus may be required with 24-hour on-call status.Summer Session Academics
Oversee the instructional unit of the summer component; teach College Success 101 (5-week course); design curriculum and schedule the summer program; develop tutoring systems; support summer instructors and tutors; monitor progress; assign mandatory tutoring; organize study halls and study groups; plan workshops on academic skills, career and college selection; facilitate summer faculty meetings; verify attendance; coordinate banquet meals and programs; prepare textbook orders; arrange field trips including transportation, permissions, itineraries and accommodations.Administrative
Assist with planning, implementation and evaluation of both year-round and summer components; provide staff training; prepare performance reports; liaise with target schools; prepare and submit transcripts; verify eligibility; produce communications and maintain records; develop evaluation tools; track participants; distribute transcripts post-summer.Compliance & Travel
Comply with U.S. Department of Education and Embry-Riddle guidelines; collect and organize statistics; complete evaluations and required reports; manage documents; participate in PMP; regular travel to designated schools; field trips, including overnight stays during summer; extended and on-call hours may be required for safety and supervision of minor participants.Physical Requirements
