Overview
The Technical Service Manager collaborates with the technical services Directors, ensuring that audio, video, lighting, and staging equipment is maintained, prepped, and delivered at the highest professional standard for live events. This role is responsible for equipment readiness, process improvement, and inventory accuracy while supporting seamless event execution through operational and technical support.
Key Responsibilities
- Equipment Maintenance & Readiness :
- Oversee preventive maintenance and repair processes for all AV, lighting, and staging equipment.
- Ensure all gear is properly stored, labeled, and tracked in the inventory system.
- Ensure repair department is coordinating with vendors and manufacturers for repairs, replacements, and warranty claims.
- Works closely with Repair & Maintenance Technician on these responsibilities.
- Gear Orders, Prep Accuracy & Inventory Resolution
- Ensure all show gear orders are reviewed, complete, and ready for timely prep and pull.
- Work closely with project managers and directors to confirm accuracy of equipment lists before the prep process begins.
- Identify and resolve inventory shortages, substitutions, or allocation conflicts before gear leaves the warehouse.
- Maintain clear communication with warehouse and production teams to address last-minute changes or special requests.
- Develop processes to minimize prep errors and ensure gear arrives at the event fully functional and organized.
- Event Technical Support
- Serve as directors support for technical issues during pre-production and live events.
- Assist production and technical teams with technical planning, gear allocation, and equipment troubleshooting.
- Process & Quality Control
- Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for gear prep, return, and maintenance.
- Maintain updated technical documentation, including system layouts, and repair logs.
- Asset Management
- Monitor repair costs, rental needs, and asset utilization to optimize resources.
- Recommend capital equipment purchases based on usage data, event demands, and gear lifecycle.
Qualifications Required
5+ years of experience in professional live event AV production, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or technical leadership role.Strong technical knowledge in audio, video, lighting, and staging systems.Experience with inventory management systems and equipment tracking processes.Troubleshooting skills with the ability to work under tight deadlines.Flexible availability, including nights and weekends as required.Seniority level
