Overview
Early Career Fire and Life Safety Engineer - Buildings at WSP in the U.S. The opportunity is a full-time position with offices in Arlington, VA; Boston, MA; Columbia, MD; Dallas, TX; Houston, TX; Nashville, TN; Los Angeles, CA; and New York, NY. The role involves working with the Fire and Life Safety (FLS) Team to meet client objectives and apply innovative and cutting-edge technology.
Responsibilities
- Under general supervision, assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, surveys, blueprints, schematics, data, technical drawings, computer-generated reports, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction.
- Assist with performing basic professional fire and life safety engineering work related to researching and inspecting proposed and existing site conditions, equipment, resources, building, infrastructure, usage, and systems to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, codes, and construction or operating permits.
- Perform routine engineering functions and provide entry-level technical assistance on design requirements, load calculations, and operating strategies to ensure proper installation and functioning of equipment and systems according to specifications.
- Assist with verifying site characteristics and providing basic technical assistance on engineering, design, and construction issues related to automatic sprinkler design, fire alarm and mass notification systems design, smoke control, egress analysis, commissioning of fire protection and smoke control systems, and building and fire code analysis / review.
- Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation and specifications using electronic systems, drawings, and field / work site notes.
- Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures including data collection, documentation, engineering studies and surveys, and construction activities.
- Complete training on assigned tasks and exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds and conduct, adhering to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
What You'll Need to Succeed
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Fire Protection Engineering or a closely related discipline.0 to 1 year of relevant post-education experience.Excellent research skills with an analytical mindset.Familiarity with design / build processes.Familiarity with relevant mechanical system and construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.Competent interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with engineering and non-engineering audiences.Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multitasking, and prioritization in a dynamic environment.Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team.Basic proficiency with technical writing, office software, spreadsheets, and related tools.Familiarity with discipline-specific design software (e.g., AutoCAD, CAM).Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety, and harassment policies.Ability to work schedules that may extend beyond the typical workweek.Occasional travel may be required depending on project requirements.Preferred Qualifications
Engineer in Training Certification.Prior internship related to the degree and discipline.Active participation in local professional practice organizations.Knowledge of REVIT and AutoCAD.Experience in fire protection engineering design applications.Benefits and Compensation

Compensation : Expected Salary (all locations) : $58,200–$96,030. WSP USA reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range and to offer additional benefits depending on circumstances.
