Veterinary Assistants Wanted
VCA Midwest Veterinary Referral & Emergency Center is seeking Veterinary Assistants to join our Emergency and Critical Care Service!
Our Emergency and Critical Care team thrives in a fast-paced service, handle critical cases, and enjoy the stimulating caseload. This is a great opportunity to expand your knowledge, and work with a dynamic team of Specialists, ER doctors, Licensed Technicians, and support staff.
Schedule : Full-time opportunities, 3 x 12 hour shifts are available or 4 x 10 hour shifts. We are hiring for Day and Swing shifts.
Shift Differential : We offer a shift differential to all hourly associates who work within a specific timeframe overnight.

Whether you are a seasoned Veterinary Assistant or a Technician in training, we want you to use the knowledge that you've invested your time and talent in. The skills that will be utilized include, but are not limited to :
- Restraining and assisting in patient exams and routine procedures
- Taking detailed medical histories and patient vitals
- Filling prescriptions (as allowed by law)
- Performing laboratory work and assisting with diagnostic imaging
- Providing compassionate care for our hospitalized animals
- Assisting our Doctor and Technician staff as needed
- Manage client invoices (PVL) and charge for emergency services appropriately
- Maintain accurate and complete medical records
- Maintain a clean work environment to maintain any infectious disease protocols, handle medical / biomedical and infectious waste appropriately
- Maintain inventory and supplies for procedures and patient husbandry
Requirements :
Minimum 1 year experience working in a veterinary hospitalHigh School Diploma / GED or equivalentExcellent communication skills necessary to interact effectively with coworkers, referring veterinarians, clients, and patients; ability to readily learn new procedures, must be adaptableAbility to work independently while supporting a busy, high-producing departmentCompassion for pets and people, understanding and respect for others' choices.Willingness to work varying shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidaysThe ability to lift up to 40 lbs. and be exposed to hazards associated with allergens, contagious diseases, noises, odors, bites, scratches, and animal waste.Below are some of the many benefits of joining the VCA Team!
