JOB TITLE : Children’s Assistant, Grade 19

LOCATION : Inman Library

DATE AVAILABLE : September 1, 2025

SALARY : $2,541 per month (Includes generous benefits package)

HOURS : 40 hours per week

Week A : Monday 8 : 45am – 6 : 00pm; Tuesday 11 : 00am-8 : 00pm; Wednesday8 : 45am-6 : 00pm; Thursday 8 : 45am-6 : 00pm; Friday OFF; Saturday,9 : 00am-5 : 00pm

Week B : Monday 8 : 45am – 5 : 45pm; Tuesday 11 : 00am-8 : 00pm; Wednesday 8 : 45am-5 : 45pm;Thursday 8 : 45am-5 : 30pm; Friday 8 : 45 – 6 : 00pm; Saturday OFF

Every fourth Sunday, 12 : 00pm – 5 : 00pm (off the Monday following theSunday worked)

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE : Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience with children. Must complete pre-employment testing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

  • Plans,promotes and presents creative programs that meet the needs of children, birththrough age 12, including story times, homeschool programs, and other specialevents and summer reading activities
  • Incorporatesthe Every Child Ready to Read concepts into programs and environments forchildren ages 0-5
  • Preparesdeposits and program contracts, requests purchase orders and tracks programstatistics
  • Activelyengages the public during community outreach programs in the local areaschools, day cares or special events
  • Responsiblefor maintaining an attractive children’s area in the library
  • Performscirculation duties including check out, check in, and processing of newmaterials
  • Participatesin regular Children’s Services Committee meetings, online discussions, and bookreviews
  • Providessuperior customer service when assisting patrons of all ages with informationrequests, reader’s advisory questions, computers, digital devices, and otherlibrary equipment
  • Attendsregular training related to children’s services and other library work
  • Supportssupervisor directives and assumes responsibility of building and staff insupervisor’s absence

    • KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS :

  • Bachelor’s degreeor equivalent combination of education and experience with children.
  • Comfortable andproficient using technology
  • Excellentinterpersonal and customer service skills
  • Strong writtenand oral communication skills
  • Creative,flexible and organized with good time management skills and attention todetail
  • Ability to takedirection and work independently or in a team environment
  • Experienceworking with children from birth through age 12 with knowledge of children’sliterature
  • Valid driver’slicense with the ability to drive to other libraries or communityoutreach
