Overview
Lead Civil and Drainage Engineer role at WSP in the U.S. Office locations include Houston, Austin, or Dallas, TX. The position supports projects across Texas and Louisiana within the Earth & Environment Team and contributes to a growing organization that meets client objectives and solves challenges.
This opportunity involves leading and contributing to a variety of projects such as large site developments, stormwater management studies, floodplain analyses and mapping, and other site civil and water resource tasks. Project types include private, local, state, and federal clients.
You will develop and manage clients and opportunities, lead people, and contribute to the Texas / Louisiana regional strategy. Work with a diverse team of civil engineers in Texas and Louisiana to support growth in the regional market.
Responsibilities
- Lead projects as Project Manager, coordinating a diverse team of engineers, technicians, and subconsultants. Serve as the project point of contact with clients, regulators, contractors, architects, and other design disciplines.
- Support projects as Senior Civil Project Engineer or other appropriate roles. Perform or supervise design and analysis for site, grading, utility, and drainage tasks.
- Oversee project management activities including schedule, financial performance, adherence to PM and quality control plans, and risk management.
- Provide construction services as requested by the client, including construction site visits.
Business Development
Engage with clients to develop new business leads and pursuits. Lead new opportunity pursuits, proposal preparation, and contract negotiations.Represent the firm in the market through involvement in client and industry events and associations.Collaborate with local and national WSP market experts to provide innovative solutions.People and Performance Leadership
Manage and mentor people, supporting growth and professional development.Contribute to the management, growth, and development of the Civil and Drainage Engineering teams.Focus on meeting Key Performance Indicators and contribute to the regional success in Texas / Louisiana.Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.Professional Engineer (PE) license in Texas.Minimum 7+ years of relevant post-education experience in civil and drainage engineering analysis and design, including at least 7 years in Texas.Proficient knowledge of civil engineering principles applied to site civil and water resource projects, including analysis, design, permitting, and construction.Strong knowledge in Stormwater Management, Drainage, Hydrology & Hydraulics Design, Watershed Studies, Floodplain Delineation, and related tools (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, SWMM, ArcGIS, Bluebeam).Experience with 2D Hydraulic Analysis (HEC-RAS 2D) and floodplain risk mapping.Knowledge of construction laws, codes, regulations, permitting processes, and regulator coordination. Experience obtaining site development permits, CLOMR / LOMR, and other construction permits.Project management experience for civil and drainage projects including proposals, budgets, schedules, staffing, subconsultant management, and design deliverables.Experience with client development and management to create new project opportunities.Strong interpersonal and communication skills for engineering and non-engineering audiences. Demonstrated leadership, attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic environment.Ability to work independently and guide junior team members, with emphasis on QA / QC and problem solving.Ability to coordinate and direct subconsultants and field teams to complete tasks safely and efficiently.Ability to work schedules that may extend beyond the typical workweek and occasional travel may be required.Preferred Qualifications
