National Grid's Graduate Development Program (GDP) is a year-long development program for recent college graduates who aspire to take on future leadership roles in a dynamic, ever-changing industry. Graduates will shape the future of National Grid. Bringing fresh thinking, new perspectives, and exploring with energy, we'll give you real responsibility and an opportunity to move with purpose from day one - putting the power to supercharge your career in your hands.

Graduates start their careers at National Grid with an in-depth 3-week in-person Orientation which gives you exposure to all parts of the company, allows you to network with your Graduate cohort, GDP alumni, and senior leaders, and provides you with the opportunity to travel throughout our service territory in the northeast US. Following Orientation, you'll begin working in full-time position outlined below and take part in ongoing development activities including quarterly development sessions, active mentorship, and a Hackathon Project.

About the Position

Are you ready to help shape the future of our energy grid? As an Associate Engineer in Distribution Planning and Asset Management, you'll be part of a team that develops recommendations for upgrades and additions to our sub-transmission and distribution facilities. Your work will enhance the system's resilience against extreme weather and modernize the grid to meet future capacity needs. We're all about improving customer service while being smart about costs and minimizing environmental impact.

This is a hybrid role based in Syracuse, New York.

What You'll Do

In this role, you'll have the chance to make a real impact. Here's what you'll be up to :

• System Planning & Asset Management : Provide strategic direction for immediate and long-term planning of sub-transmission and distribution systems to enhance resilience and meet capacity requirements.
• Customer Support : Conduct studies and ensure compliance for customer and distributed generation interconnections, offering technical guidance to customer groups.
• Reliability Performance : Track and enhance regional distribution and sub-transmission reliability, promoting actions for improvement.
• Collaboration : Work with various National Grid departments, including Electric Operations, Regional Control Centers and Distribution Design, to support integration of distributed generation, deployment of grid modernization, customer centric solutions and compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Process Improvement : Proactively identify and implement changes to enhance performance, efficiency, and effectiveness of engineering processes.
• Problem Solving : Take responsibility for addressing issues promptly and effectively, while maintaining strong communication with stakeholders

Salary Range

Syracuse, NY $87,000 - $102,000 a year

You must reside within our existing footprint, which includes contiguous states (New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Vermont). Our hybrid working approach applies to all colleagues who have a role which has the flexibility to be done hybrid across the National Grid group. Operational requirements mean that not all roles are suitable for hybrid working. Managers are responsible for determining whether a role is conducive to hybrid working. A hybrid worker should also reside within a reasonable, commutable distance to their assigned primary office.
