Job Title : Billing Manager Home Health & Hospice

Position Overview
The Billing Manager oversees the end-to-end revenue cycle for home health and hospice services, ensuring timely and accurate claim submission, reimbursement, and compliance with payer requirements. This role plays a critical part in maintaining the financial health of the organization by managing billing operations, optimizing collections, and leading a team of billing professionals. The Billing Manager utilizes Home Care Home Base (HCHB) to streamline workflows and maintain documentation integrity.
Core Responsibilities
Billing & Claims Oversight
- Direct the preparation and electronic submission of claims to Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payers via HCHB.
- Monitor unbilled claims and proactively address delays to prevent denials due to timely filing limits.
- Manage claim follow-up, denial resolution, appeals, and adjustment postings.
- Conduct monthly reviews of accounts receivable and ensure consistent follow-through on outstanding balances.
Revenue Cycle & AR Management
Partner with finance leadership to assess uncollectible accounts and recommend third-party collection strategies.Ensure accurate payer configurations and authorization entries in HCHB.Oversee insurance verification and prior authorization processes for applicable services.Stakeholder Communication & Support
Serve as a primary point of contact for billing-related inquiries from patients, families, payers, and internal teams.Identify trends in denials or billing errors and collaborate with quality assurance to implement corrective actions.Compliance & Documentation
Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA regulations, Medicare billing guidelines, and industry standards.Ensure all billing actions and communications are thoroughly documented within HCHB.Support internal audits and compliance initiatives as needed.Team Leadership & Development
Train, mentor, and support billing team members to ensure high performance and professional growth.Foster collaboration across clinical and financial departments to enhance billing accuracy and efficiency.Participate in team meetings and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.Qualifications
Education & Experience
High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, or Healthcare Administration preferred.Minimum 1 year of medical billing experience required; prior experience in home health or hospice billing strongly preferred.Proficiency with Home Care Home Base (HCHB) is required or highly preferred.Familiarity with clearinghouses (e.g., Waystar) and interpreting Explanation of Benefits (EOBs).Skills & Competencies
In-depth knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance billing protocols.Strong organizational, analytical, and time management skills.Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.Collaborative mindset with a commitment to team success.Physical Requirements
