Assistant Controller

Our client a private investment firm is looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Assistant Controller to join their team in Arlington, Virginia. This role is integral to the financial operations of a single-family office and its corporate entities, supporting the Controller in accounting and financial management tasks. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in corporate accounting principles and a keen interest in family office finance, with a preference for experience in real estate property management or lease accounting.

Responsibilities :

• Assist in preparing monthly and year-end financial statements, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
• Reconcile general ledger accounts, prepare journal entries, and analyze financial data to support informed decision-making.
• Manage bank reconciliations and ensure proper coding of transactions within the general ledger.
• Support the accounting team with month-end closings, cash recording, and general ledger transactions across multiple entities.
• Oversee financial and administrative aspects of a commercial real estate portfolio, including budgeting, rent collection, and operating expense management.
• Handle tenant billing and reconcile common area maintenance charges and real estate allocations.
• Prepare and maintain tax schedules, coordinating data for tax activities and ensuring compliance.
• Utilize accounting software such as Intacct, QuickBooks, and Sage Fixed Assets to streamline operations and reporting.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of new processes to accommodate company growth.
• Perform other duties and projects as assigned to support the financial operations.

The ideal candidate for this Assistant Controller role will have 5+ years of corporate accounting experience where you have done hands on work, closing the books, reconciliations, preferably some knowledge of ASC 842 and some experience with Intacct, BS in Accounting and someone who thinks outside the box who is a self-starter. This role is 5 days / week in the office in Arlington, and the comp range is 130-150K in base salary plus bonus.
