DEFINITION
The purpose of this job / class within the organization is to conduct technical engineering inspection work over City development and construction activities.
This job / class works under close supervision according to set procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Not all-inclusive)
Oversees and inspects the construction of City capital improvement projects as well as commercial or land development projects regulated by the City to ensure construction is in compliance with approved construction plans. Assists with review and recommends Right-Of-Way Use Permits and Excavation Permits. Inspects grading work for proper materials, moisture content, width, grade and drainage; inspects surfacing work for proper width, depth, mixture and amount of material; inspects construction of stormwater and other structures for proper alignment, grade and elevation. Confirms monthly payment applications with contractors; advises private construction superintendents of deficiencies in work; confers with and reports problems to the responsible developer or consulting engineer; approves site development construction work for the Department and determines compliance with the site engineering permit. Inspects subdivisions and all other privately funded and public / private joint ventures during construction and approves each element of work before next level is placed. Participates in final acceptance inspection of subdivisions, public and private construction projects.
Additional Duties :
Writes reports and compiles information concerning permit violations. Investigates complaints received by public works concerning various situations such as flooding, pavement conditions, right of way, and encroachment; makes recommendations as to validity and solution. Performs related work as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent. Requires one year technical experience in civil engineering, inspections or closely related experience.

LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS
Requires a driver's license valid in the State of Florida.Must possess or have the ability to possess within one year of hire a Florida Stormwater Erosion and Sedimentation Control Inspector Certification and Intermediate MOT certificate.
