Maintenance Supervisor

This position is responsible for skilled work in supervising and performing maintenance and repair of buildings and facilities. The candidate must be a self-starter and strong team member. Excellent customer service is an essential component of being an employee of Volusia County, therefore the candidate must possess experience and willingness to be a strong customer service agent.

Illustrative duties include supervising and participating in the work of maintenance personnel, ensuring work is performed in accordance with accepted trade practices, assigning work requests and schedules, reading blueprints, ordering materials, coordinating work with sub-contractors, ensuring work and materials conform to building codes, planning renovations and modifications, estimating time, materials, and costs, maintaining records, conferring with divisions regarding maintenance needs, making recommendations for renovation and building maintenance projects, and performing other duties as assigned.

Minimum requirements include graduation from high school or possession of a GED and four (4) years experience in the general building trades, or an associate's degree and two (2) years experience in the general building trades, including some experience as a foreman or in a similar supervisory capacity. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities include knowledge of methods, techniques, tools, and materials used in the building trades, knowledge of occupational hazards associated with building trades work, ability to use a computerized maintenance management system, ability to layout work and instruct workers, ability to establish and maintain good working relationships, ability to read and interpret sketches and blueprints, ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, ability to respond to emergency situations, ability to communicate effectively, ability to work under stressful conditions, and ability to interact effectively with others.
