Job Summary :
The Clinical Medical Assistant will assist the provider with patient care. He / She will create an atmosphere that reflects the level of standards and care that patients can expect to receive from this practice. The provider entrusts the goodwill of patients to the assistant, therefore, extending the provider's relationship with the patient.
To be successful in this position, the assistant must be friendly, polite, tactful, and professional in appearance and manner at all times. He / She will be able to communicate with the physician and patient and be mindful of patient confidentiality. He / She will be able to evaluate and respond to a patient's needs and relay the provider's instructions. The successful medical assistant will be a team player and respectful of his / her co-workers.
Hours : Monday-Friday :
- 6 : 40 a.m. until completion of cases.
- Lunch : Varying times and lengths based on case load.
- The office closes at 5 : 00 p.m.; however, cases may extend later requiring assistance until completion. This occurs without notice.
Requirements :
High School Diploma or equivalent.Certified Medical Assistant or Licensed Practical Nurse preferred but not required.Experience with surgical procedures preferred but not required.Additional roles may be available with 4-year Bachelor of Science degreeCompensation :

Work Environment :
DASWLA is a high-volume, private medical facility where the work environment is sometimes busy, hectic and / or noisy with interruptions.There is exposure to routine dermatological diseases and procedures with a risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens.Skills :
Able to speak English clearly and make self-understood.Good verbal and written communication skills including grammar and spelling.Addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and fractions.Compassion and care in dealing with others.Prioritization of tasks.Comprehension of provider's instructions and the ability to relay this information to patients as well as the wherewithal to seek clarification, additional information or advice when necessary.Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.Knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Outlook software.General knowledge of electronic medical records is helpful but not required.Physical Demands :
Must be able to remain in a stationary position whether standing or sitting for extended periods of time.Must be able to occasionally move about the office to access shared office equipment or access charts.Must be able to operate a computer and accessories such as printer, mouse, keyboard, and other office productivity machinery such as a calculator.Must have dexterity necessary to operate surgical instruments such as scissors.Must be able to occasionally ascend / descend a ladder to access some medical supplies.Must be able to position self to maintain computers and other desk equipment on top of and under the desk as well as in exam rooms when positioning patients and assisting the provider.Must be able to accurately communicate information to and from patients and providers in person, in writing and on the telephone.Must be able to visually inspect and observe patient's skin conditions including, but not limited to, color variations and the presence of abnormal conditions.Must be able to assist in transporting and positioning patients for exam or procedure.Must be able to occasionally transport movable medical equipment such as mobile lasers, surgical lamps, etc.Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
As assigned, but not limited to the following :
Interact and assist patients in person and phone calls. Escort patient to and from exam room. Maintain the physical and electronic medical record by confirming all information has been documented. Take and log patient vitals.Assist provider with patient care, including, but not limited to, Mohs micrographic surgery, biopsy, wound care, suture removal, order preparation, prepare injections for administration (Kenalog, sclerotherapy, etc.), photodynamic therapy (PDT) and cosmetic services.Manage medical record insofar as written requests and phone calls.Referrals from physician / to physician : scheduling as well as preparing and sending the referral.Fax referral status notes to referring physicians for office visits.Initiate prior authorizations, when necessary, such as for medications or imaging studies.Handle / route questions regarding schedule or procedure insofar as the physician's clinic is concerned.Prepare and send noncompliance letters to patients, or informative letters regarding upcoming appointments or procedures.Discuss, schedule and consent surgeries and cosmetic procedures.Assist with clinic preparatory duties including, but not limited to, restocking supplies, instrument washing and sterilization, laundering surgical wraps / drapes.Assist general dermatology providers with clinical duties as assigned.Clerical duties, including, but not limited to, assisting the call center in answering incoming phone calls, scheduling appointments, and managing incoming referrals and / or assisting the reception check-in center.This description is intended to provide only basic guidelines for meeting job requirements.
