Chief Financial Officer
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) oversees the finance and accounting function, financial compliance, and SPLC's offices and facilities. They partner with the EVP Chief Operating Officer (COO) to set and execute a financial plan that supports the Center's strategic plan and, partnering with the General Counsel, the CFO is responsible for risk management.
The CFO works closely with the COO in gathering, distributing and archiving board meetings and board committee meeting materials and minutes. They work closely with the audit, finance, and investment committees of the Board of Directors. The CFO serves as Treasurer of the Center as elected by the Board of Directors.
Key responsibilities include developing the operational and strategic plans for the finance and administrative functions; overseeing the financial planning process and $100M operating budget; collaborating closely with the Chief Development Officer to budget and monitor fundraising progress; managing financial institution and investment advisor relationships; monitoring internal control environment and activities; providing timely, accurate, and useful financial and management reporting for federal and state funders, foundations, and the board of directors; preparing and communicating monthly and annual financial statements; remaining current on state and federal law regarding nonprofit financial operations; ensuring legal and regulatory compliance regarding all financial functions; ensuring timely and accurate financial audits, and preparation and filing of tax returns; serving as a key leader and building internal relationships with colleagues and staff, in order to understand the programming and support functions that enable strategic resource allocation for the greatest impact; managing a comprehensive risk program, identifying and mitigating risks across the Center, including insurance, processes, and policies; managing long-term facility planning and maintenance; managing a large team of staff, providing mentoring and coaching to support the work; hiring, training, establishing and monitoring staff performance and development goals, assigning duties, and conducting performance reviews; and other duties as assigned to assist the EVP, Chief Operating Officer and President & CEO.
