Job Description
1st Class Structural Welder - General assembly of steel or aluminum ships through welding or tack welding using electric, gas, arc and other welding equipment. Determines proper equipment to be used; inspects, tests, and repairs work pieces accordingly.
Pay : $21.00
Per-Diem : $150.00
Lodging : Up to 2 weeks ((covered))
Bonus : $300
The test consist of the following :
2G, 3G, 4G FCAW on Steel
Blueprint reading test
SKILLS, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Must have 3 years minimum of construction or mechanical experience
- Must have experience setting up, troubleshooting, and utilizing weld machines.
- Must have experience laying out and measuring utilizing the metric system.
- Must have experience working with blueprints.
- Must have experience working with hand tools.
- Must have experience working with overhead cranes to include safe rigging of equipment to be lifted.
- Weld together metal components of products, as specified by layout, blueprints, diagram, work order, welding producers, or oral instructions, using electric arc-welding equipment
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Certification in shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), also known as manual metal arc welding (MMA or MMAW), flux shielded arc weldingCertification in flux-cored arc welding (FCAW or FCA) (a semi-automatic or automatic arc welding process)Certification in gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) (arc welding process that uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode to produce the weld)Certification in gas metal arc welding (GMAW) (a welding process in which an electric arc forms between a consumable wire electrode and the work piece metal(s), which heats the work piece metal(s), causing them to melt, and join)Certification in submerged arc welding (SAW) ( a common arc welding process that requires a continuously fed consumable solid or tubular (metal cored) electrode)Other certifications for welding various materials to include : carbon steel, stainless steel, copper nickel, and aluminumMust pass the requirements of MIL-STD-T9074-AQ-GIB-010 / 248, Para. 5.2.3.1(a) and Welder workmanship Training with a 75% or higher.Flux core (Seam), GMAW (5XXX Aluminum), and GTAW welding certs (under S9074-AQ-GIB-010 / 248)Math, reading and comprehension skills.Read and interpret blueprints utilizing both metric and standard measurements with the ability to comprehend instructions, drawings, and general correspondence.Must possess a working knowledge of welding equipment and work processes used in marine welding.Must have a working knowledge of and understanding of MIL-STD-1689.Safety & Environmental Factors :

This role involves working under extreme hot or cold conditions and requires the physical ability to stand for the entire shift, use hands for various tasks, ascend stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, and hear. Team members must occasionally lift items weighing up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required include close, distant, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
