The University of Denver (DU) is a top ranked university in a thriving city at the base of the Rocky Mountains. The Graduate School of Professional Psychology (GSPP) at DU was created in 1976 to house one of the first Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) programs in the country, under the Vail training model (practitioner-scholar). The PsyD program has been continuously accredited by the American Psychological Association since 1979. As a professional school, GSPP promotes and utilizes high level pedagogy that integrates applied practice, theory, research, and scholarship.
The department is committed to educating students to provide culturally competent services to clients and the community. As part of our training model, GSPP offers a broad range of confidential and evidence-based mental health care to the Denver community through multiple specialized clinics. Our Professional Psychology Clinic (PPC) has provided low-cost, high-quality psychological services to the Denver community for over 35 years and houses a number of specialty clinics. The Sturm Center is a behavioral health clinic for Veterans (no matter discharge status, era, combat status), Service members (active duty, Guard, Reserve), and their families (all ages). At the Sturm Center, student therapists and licensed practitioners provide high-quality, evidence-based, confidential mental health services at a community-centered facility on the DU campus or through telehealth. To help with the cost of these services, the Sturm Center operates on a sliding-scale payment model and accepts Medicaid; the clinic also provides pro-bono services through grants, gifts and other types of external funding. The clinic currently provides individual, couples, family and child / adolescent therapy, along with an extensive range of types of psychological assessment, including learning disorder, ADHD, personality, diagnostic, and objective medical evidence evaluations.
