Lead the Future of Energy Media and Partnerships
AAPG is looking for a sharp, strategic sales leader to take the reins as Head of Advertising & Strategic Partnerships . This role shapes how a respected global energy association grows its digital revenue and builds lasting corporate relationships.
You’ll develop six-figure partnerships with leading energy companies, leverage multi-channel campaigns, and bring fresh ideas to how AAPG engages industry, academia, and emerging technologies.

Responsibilities
- Lead advertising and sponsorship sales strategy across all AAPG media channels, with an emphasis on digital-first offerings (website, eNewsletters, webinars, podcasts, targeted emails, and sponsorship packages).
- Develop strategic account plans for key global energy and IOC clients (e.g., BP, Chevron, Shell, TotalEnergies, NOCs), targeting $150K–$250K+ annual commitments.
- Design and sell bundled, multi-channel packages that integrate digital ads, content, webinars, sponsorships, and student / educational programs.
- Capture transactional revenue from smaller / niche advertisers (e.g., display ads, newsletters) while maintaining focus on major partnerships.
- Identify and sell new opportunities not listed in the media kit (e.g., holiday campaigns, custom content, event tie-ins).
- Collaborate with AAPG leadership to implement a structured account “recipe” model, ensuring repeatability while leaving room for customization.
- Leverage AAPG’s new CRM (HubSpot) to log contacts, manage pipeline, forecast deals, and ensure transparency across the sales cycle.
- Consistently meet or exceed revenue targets, driving both short-term sales and long-term partnership growth.
Other Functions
Represent AAPG at client meetings and networking events.Provide input to marketing and events teams to align offerings with advertiser needs.Monitor competitor offerings and industry trends to keep AAPG competitive and innovative.Level of Discretion and Authority
Works independently to prospect, negotiate, and close business.Develops account-level strategies in coordination with leadership.Manages personal pipeline and forecasting through CRM.Position Requirements
Experience :
8+ years of advertising, sponsorship, or business development experience, preferably in media, publishing, or B2B associations.Proven track record of closing six-figure accounts and managing long sales cycles.Experience with HubSpot or comparable CRM for pipeline management and forecasting.Familiarity with energy, geoscience, or technical B2B industries preferred.Education / Certifications / Licenses :
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or Business from an accredited institutionMust hold and maintain a current state driver’s licenseJob Specific Skills and Knowledge :
Strong sales, negotiation, and account management skills.Ability to create compelling proposals and packages for executive-level decision makers.Adept at balancing strategic IOC-level deals with transactional sales.Strong written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to design and grow new revenue streams.Preferred Job Experience :
Experience selling digital advertising, webinars, podcasts, or sponsored content.Association or nonprofit background with sponsorship and corporate partnerships.Familiarity with international markets and energy industry sponsorship patterns.Referrals increase your chances of interviewing at AAPG. Location : Houston, TX. Salary range : $180,000 - $215,000.
