Summary The Senior Buyer is a strategic partner and category expert, responsible for negotiating long and short-term contracts with vendors and collecting and gathering data on potential suppliers and carriers. This position plans, creates, implements, and maintains valued added purchasing plans, relationships, processes, and procedures for the company. This position is accountable for delivering annual savings and meeting working capital targets. The position is responsible for managing the contract manufacturing category and network of suppliers.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Identify, assess, qualify, and develop a supplier pipeline to deliver value creation and innovation
- Maintain appropriate files on supplier pipeline and records of meetings with suppliers to ensure company requirements are met
- Develop, communicate, and maintain category strategies where needed to sustain long term competitiveness, ensure supply, and eliminate / minimize single sourced items
- Evaluates the external market and develop strategies to mitigate risk and create competitive advantages
- Provides reports and insights on procurement spend and alignment of projects to the business' goals
- Measure, track, and manage supplier performance related to quality, on time delivery, and order accuracy
- Assist internal and external customers by interpreting laws, policy, codes, and regulations pertaining to purchasing
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending workshops and reviewing professional publications
- Suggest and implement cost saving and process improvement measures, ensure compliance to these measures by coaching and working with other team members and departments
- Coordinate across departments (ex. production, logistics, planning) and disperse necessary information about purchasing and sales
- Complete all required training in a timely manner
- Adhere to ERU food safety policies and all government food safety and sanitation regulations (ex. FDA, HACCP, GMP, OSHA)
- Issues requests for quotes / proposals (RFQ / RFP) and select best source consistent with cost, quality and delivery requirements. Negotiates and manage long and short term pricing agreements on critical commodities
- Complete purchase requests with domestic and international suppliers by inputting purchase orders, expediting deliveries, and verifying all transactions.
- Handle correspondence concerning over-shipments, delivery shortages, changes in quantity, delivery dates, and prices and report such changes to the interested parties in a timely manner
- Act as a liaison between suppliers and involved departments to resolve procurement related problems
- Performs all other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree Business fieldMinimum of 5 years purchasing experience including; procurement, inventory control, contract negotiation, supply management, vendor relationshipsExperience with contract manufacturing category; food industry experience preferredStrong understanding MRP processes, sourcing processes, and market analysisERP system experience preferredStrong knowledge in Microsoft Office products, especially MS ExcelStrong problem solving abilities requiredShould be flexible and capable of dealing with multiple prioritiesExcellent organizational skills, ability to balance short-term priorities and exceptional information analysis skills are a necessityExcellent communication skillsKnowledge of continuous improvement methodology; experience identifying improvement opportunities and coordinating across departments to accomplish goalsAbility to work collaboratively across functions and obtain necessary "buy in" from stakeholders and senior leadershipProven record of implementing cost savings, process improvements, and establishing qualified vendor pipelineBenefits
