POSITION DESCRIPTION

The nursing faculty will provide instruction (theory or clinical / lab) in their area of expertise to a diverse student population. The nursing faculty has the ability to cultivate a dynamic student-centered learning environment utilizing evidence-based teaching strategies and clinical practice. Courses may be offered during the day and evening. The nursing faculty will have the opportunity to enhance the quality of the nursing program and promote evidence-based practices within. One method is to provide strategies and academic reinforcement to students throughout their academic program as well as support sessions. The nursing faculty will provide instruction, tutoring, remediation, and evaluation in didactic / intervention and clinical learning concepts, including Skills Lab and Simulations. The nursing faculty reports to the Associate Dean of Nursing.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Support the mission of Instituto College and the nursing program while adhering to policies, procedures, and standards of the institution, program, and regulating bodies.
• Utilizes academic reinforcement and provides student success strategies when working with students individually and in small groups.
• Utilizes active learning and student success strategies in the classroom and skills lab.
• Utilizes effective coaching and mentoring skills to aid students in the development of critical thinking, professional development and skill competency.
• Assesses learning styles, identifies strengths, and determines opportunities for academic development; work to develop active learning and study strategies that are appropriate for students’ need and optimizes their learning.
• Assist students with preparing to take the NCLEX-RN Exam.
• Utilizes a variety of teaching methods, supplemental instructional methods / materials and programming to assist students in mastering didactic and clinical learning concepts, as well as current evolving design methods that include technologies such as patient-care simulations.
• Collaborates with other didactic instructors to identify at-risk students; maintains communication to ensure continuity for students related to specific course expectations and discussions during tutoring / remediation sessions.
• Develops, implements, and updates effective personalized supplemental learning, and / or remediation plans.
• Works closely with the Associate Dean of Nursing to identify possible performance barriers and facilitating proper remediation strategies, and contributes to the nursing program’s continuous improvement overall.
• Creates, updates, and submits course syllabus for approval prior to sharing with students.
• Prepares and submits grades, attendance, test results, and all other classroom-related documents within the required time frame utilizing the College’s student information system.
• Ensures students follow attendance policies, dress code, and professional standards at all times.
• Maintains appropriate personal attendance, accountability, and work productivity standards.
• Plans, prioritizes, and organizes assignments to meet established goals and deadlines.
• Coordinates and supervises students to ensure lab experiences meet course objectives and provides individual oversight to students for practice and / or remediation of technical skills as requested by other faculty and / or students.
• Plans and schedules students for structured and open lab utilization times and ensures lab schedules are communicated to students.
• Operates and maintains computerized simulation equipment.
• Collaborates and coordinates with the department Administrative Assistant to ensure preparation of lab supplies and a timely inventory of all lab supplies and equipment.
• Prepares and maintains lab and simulated patient care environments with equipment, supplies, media, computers, and materials required to replicate a simulated healthcare setting.
• Convenes classes as scheduled and approved by the Associate Dean of Nursing.
• Participates in curriculum planning and development, outcomes assessment and revisions, preparation of course syllabi, textbook adoptions, selection of supplemental instructional materials (including library resources) and supplies.
• Maintains office hours with students as listed on the course syllabi.
• Maintains ongoing assessment of students’ performance with timely feedback.
• Collaborates with clinical education partners in instructional delivery and supervision of student learning in the clinical setting, including, but not limited to, orientation, adherence to agency policies / procedures, communication with members of the healthcare team, and student clinical evaluation.
• Documents and reports students’ academic progress and attendance issues, per SAP policy, to leadership.
• Assist with orientation / boot camps (faculty and students).
• Continuously engages in personal and professional development and scholarly activities.
• Participates in accreditation continuous readiness such as collection and analysis of data for reporting and program evaluation needs; assists with planning accreditation readiness activities.
• Participates in departmental and faculty meetings.
• Participates in Advisory Committee meetings when requested by the Associate Dean of Nursing.
• Other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Nature of work requires an ability to operate standard technology for word processing and internet use. Requires long period of standing. Requires ability to communicate and exchange information, collect, compile and prepare work documents, and maintain work files.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Majority of work performed in a classroom, lab, or healthcare facility environment. Position requires availability for extended hours plus non-traditional hours required to perform job duties. Also requires participation and attendance at organization sponsored events and meetings.
