Employee Relations Specialist
South Carolina Federal Credit Union is currently seeking an Employee Relations Specialist to join our team of outstanding professionals in North Charleston, SC.
Duties include but are not limited to :
- Conduct workplace investigations involving employee concerns, policy violations, or workplace conflicts in a timely, impartial, and thorough manner.
- Review and provide guidance on all performance-related documentation (including evaluations, corrective actions, and improvement plans) to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with company policies and best practices.
- Compile performance management, coaching, and disciplinary documentation to present to HR Leadership for employee relation issues for termination.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts, managers, and employees to identify workplace concerns, clarify issues, and recommend effective, policy-aligned resolutions.
- Utilize exceptional writing skills to develop clear, consistent, and legally sound performance documentation to support employee performance management, disciplinary actions, and compliance with company policies.
- Serve as a liaison to managers on employee relations matters, including conflict resolution, corrective action, and performance management.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of investigations, findings, and resolutions.
- Regularly review and recommend policy updates to align with legal requirements, evolving workplace trends, and industry best practices that are proactive, reduce risk and strengthen organizational practices.
- Support HR initiatives that strengthen employee engagement, trust, and workplace culture.
- Lead and / or support HR projects and tactical initiatives as needed.
- Ensure the HR policies, procedures, and practices pertaining to areas of responsibilities are up-to-date and compliant with all state and federal laws and regulations and that they are consistently being followed.
- Actively participate in internal and external audits and provide all requested deliverables timely.
- Assist with servicing the HR Helpdesk telephone and email and respond accurately and promptly to inquiries.
- Assist with the maintenance and compliance of the Record Retention schedule.
- Assist with tracking department expenses and preparing the annual budget proposal.
- Provide support to other Human Resources team members as needed.
Minimum qualifications include :
Possess a bachelor's degree in similar or related field or equivalent work experience.Possess a minimum of three years of experience in Human Resources with a focus on employee relations.Possess a minimum of two years of experience conducting workplace investigations, coaching managers, and resolving employee concerns.Possess a professional Human Resources certification through a reputable organization such as SHRM, HRCI or equivalent or be willing and able to obtain within two years. Demonstrate experience interpreting and applying employment laws and HR policies.Strong knowledge of performance management and disciplinary processes.Process proficiency with HRIS and other HR related systems.Possess knowledge of federal, state and local employment laws and regulations.Possess the ability to balance employer and employee advocacy.Possess the ability to maintain confidentiality at all times and handle sensitive issues with tact and diplomacy.Possess the ability to communicate professionally and effectively both verbally and in writing.Possess the ability to drive programmatic change initiatives throughout the organization and build solid relationships at all levels.Possess strong analytical skills with the ability to translate complex business issues and provide impactful solutions.Possess the ability to work in ambiguous situations and demonstrate strong critical thinking skills.Possess strong presentation, consulting and negotiation skills.Possess the ability to work in a cross-functional environment in a highly collaborative manner.Possess strong initiative with the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.Possess time management and organizational skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple task and initiatives concurrently.Possess the ability to successfully perform duties with a high degree of accuracy.Possess the ability to successfully manage projects.Possess working experience with the various HR systems.Possess proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.Possess intermediate mathematical skills to perform calculations involving decimals and percentages.NOTE : Relevant military experience is considered for veterans and transitioning service men and women.
