Overview
POWER Engineers, a member of WSP, is currently seeking an energetic, self-starting team member with a strong civil engineering education and an interest in performing engineering design activities for electrical substations. This position is in the Power Delivery Northeast Civil / Structural Substation Department, with offices in the following locations : Freeport and Augusta, Maine; Foxborough, Massachusetts; Syracuse, New York, Ann Arbor, Michigan; and Columbus, Ohio. Flexibility is available for a hybrid work environment (employee will need to live within driving distance of one of the offices).
Responsibilities
- All aspects of substation civil design including permitting support, site design,foundation design, structure design, and control building design
- Development of civil construction specifications, cost estimates, engineering proposals and project schedules
- Support of substation physical design with bus analysis calculations and coordinating with multiple disciplines on results
- Preparation of calculation packages to satisfy client and code requirements
- Understand and incorporate typical structural code requirements
- Coordination with all disciplines contributing to electrical substation design
- Preparation of calculation packages to satisfy client and code requirements
- Occasional travel will be required
Required Education / Experience
BSCE (Bachelor of Science in Civil / Structural Engineering) degree from an accredited collegeAbility to perform basic civil engineering tasksAbility to independently create calculation packagesMechanical reasoning skills and attention to detailSuccessful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam, or the ability to complete the FE exam within one yearA strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnelCandidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorshipDesired Education / Experience
Three (3) or more years of civil design experienceExperience in electric utility substation design (15kV through 500kV) is a plusExperience with AutoCAD, Microstation, RISA, MatchCAD, LPile, and Civil 3D are beneficialGeotechnical background is a plusProfessional Engineering license (PE) or the ability to obtain licensure and ability to obtain licensure in multiple statesAbility to successfully participate in multiple projects concurrently and manage budgets and schedulesAbout POWER Engineers
