Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) role requiring a SD or compact RN license and expertise in telemetry and intermediate care.
Responsibilities
Work in a hospital-based Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with 36-48 beds flexing with censusPatient population is 90% Med / Surg and 10% intermediate care, including long length-of-stay patientsCommon diagnoses include DKA, post-surgical cases, cellulitis, influenza, respiratory and cardiac conditions, renal and hepatic failure, GI disorders, soft tissue injuries, and CVA overflowNurses provide wound care, line and tube management, blood product transfusions, titratable drips, and telemetry monitoringRequired to work 12-hour day shifts with a 36-hour weekly scheduleWeekend rotation may include up to 4 of 6 weekends including Friday, Saturday, and SundayNo mandatory on-call requirementPatient ratios : 1 : 5-6 for Med / Surg, 1 : 5 for Med / Surg / Telemetry, 1 : 4 for Intermediate CareEMR is Epic; experience with Epic is requiredPossible floating to any adult inpatient unit within scope, including Med Surg, Ortho / Neuro / Surgical, Heart and Vascular, Oncology, and ObservationTwo days of unit orientation and two shifts with a preceptor providedResponsibilities include wound care, managing a variety of IV lines and drains, and administration of multiple medication forms and titratable dripsSupport team includes a CNA (1 : 8 ratio), dedicated charge nurse, RTs, hospitalists, and phlebotomy servicesWork in a Level II Trauma, Level III NICU, Level II Pediatric Trauma, and primary stroke / chest pain center with Magnet designationTravelers will float in rotation with other travelers based on facility needsTwo days of structured orientation and support from preceptors is providedNavy blue scrubs are requiredFree parking is availableHoliday RTO is limited and must be approved by management; blackout dates typically apply during the annual Sturgis Motorcycle RallyPotential to work with students in a teaching hospital environmentVery traveler-friendly unit with strong likelihood for contract renewalRequirements
Active SD or Compact RN licenseMinimum 1 year of recent PCU RN experience requiredCurrent certifications : BLS, ACLS, and NIHSSCompletion of a nursing education program approved by a board of nursingDemonstrated experience and competence with Med / Surg and intermediate care patients, including telemetry and neuro casesMust be comfortable with Med / Surg assignments and interpreting cardiac stripsExperience with Epic charting system requiredCompetency in titration of drips including Heparin, Insulin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Levophed (up to 5 mcg), with occasional use of esmolol and antihypertensivesTravelers must live more than 100 miles from any Monument Health facilityFirst-time travelers considered only if they have Epic experiencePermanent staff must wait one full year to return as a travelerBenefits
