Responsibilities Work in a hospital-based Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with 36-48 beds flexing with census Patient population is 90% Med / Surg and 10% intermediate care, including long length-of-stay patients Common diagnoses include DKA, post-surgical cases, cellulitis, influenza, respiratory and cardiac conditions, renal and hepatic failure, GI disorders, soft tissue injuries, and CVA overflow Nurses provide wound care, line and tube management, blood product transfusions, titratable drips, and telemetry monitoring Required to work 12-hour day shifts with a 36-hour weekly schedule Weekend rotation may include up to 4 of 6 weekends including Friday, Saturday, and Sunday No mandatory on-call requirement Patient ratios : 1 : 5-6 for Med / Surg, 1 : 5 for Med / Surg / Telemetry, 1 : 4 for Intermediate Care EMR is Epic; experience with Epic is required Possible floating to any adult inpatient unit within scope, including Med Surg, Ortho / Neuro / Surgical, Heart and Vascular, Oncology, and Observation Two days of unit orientation and two shifts with a preceptor provided Responsibilities include wound care, managing a variety of IV lines and drains, and administration of multiple medication forms and titratable drips Support team includes a CNA (1 : 8 ratio), dedicated charge nurse, RTs, hospitalists, and phlebotomy services Work in a Level II Trauma, Level III NICU, Level II Pediatric Trauma, and primary stroke / chest pain center with Magnet designation Travelers will float in rotation with other travelers based on facility needs Two days of structured orientation and support from preceptors is provided Navy blue scrubs are required Free parking is available Holiday RTO is limited and must be approved by management; blackout dates typically apply during the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally Potential to work with students in a teaching hospital environment Very traveler-friendly unit with strong likelihood for contract renewal Requirements Active SD or Compact RN license Minimum 1 year of recent PCU RN experience required Current certifications : BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS Completion of a nursing education program approved by a board of nursing Demonstrated experience and competence with Med / Surg and intermediate care patients, including telemetry and neuro cases Must be comfortable with Med / Surg assignments and interpreting cardiac strips Experience with Epic charting system required Competency in titration of drips including Heparin, Insulin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Levophed (up to 5 mcg), with occasional use of esmolol and antihypertensives Travelers must live more than 100 miles from any Monument Health facility First-time travelers considered only if they have Epic experience Permanent staff must wait one full year to return as a traveler Benefits High Pay and Bonuses Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options 401(k) Plan Weekly Payroll Deposit Free Online CEUs Generous Housing Allowance Travel and Licensure Reimbursements Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID P-608459.
