Nursing Supervisor
Job Summary
Promotes and restores patients' health by developing day-to-day management and long-term planning of the patient care area; directing and developing staff; collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary professional staffs; providing physical and psychological support for patients, friends, and families.
Essential Functions
- Promote the mission, vision, and values of the organization
- Assess patient care requirements on each unit, by making rounds in the Emergency Department (ED), and all other areas of the hospital (according to departmental need / activity)
- Assess the acuity of care required by patient the patients
- Develop and implement staffing plan for shift based on patient acuity, patient census and available staff.
- Serve as a resource to staff for solving clinical problems.
- Assist staff to efficiently utilize staffing resources to meet patient care requirements and other professional responsibilities.
- Provide for immediate follow-up, documentation and communication of incidents to appropriate manager and director.
- Respond to emergency situations (Code Blue, etc.) and assists as necessary.
- Act as a resource in identifying and / or solving administrative / operational problems-
- Anticipate actual / potential problems that may occur on their shift and sets shift priorities accordingly.
- Work collaboratively with nursing and ancillary staff to solve problems in a fair, consistent manner.
- Contact representatives of departments not presently in the hospital for assistance with problem solving, timely and appropriately .
Report to the administrator-on-call significant incidents and problems such as :
unusual patient or family problems or concernsphysician concernsborrowing or lending of major equipmentmajor damage or utility outagessecurity problemspublic relations or media eventsAssumes responsibility for hospital wide operations, administrative and clinical practice during assigned tour of dutyEnsures staff compliance to hospital, divisional and departmental policies, procedures and standardsCoordinates, directs and supervises the practice of nursing personnel on the clinical unitsRole model for customer service goals and objectives.Promotes positive work environment. Identifies employees behavior that does not support customer service standardsOversees EMTALA regulations are observed properlyKeeps Administrator-On-Call informed of appropriate situations occurring in the hospitalInsures the confidentiality of all information related to patients and employees are maintainedReports factual information to Nursing Manager.

Minimum Education / Certifications
Graduate of an accredited program in nursing or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN). Master’s of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred.
Current Registered Nurse license to practice in the state of NJ.
Certifications required : BLS (American Heart Association). ACLS - Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support preferred.
Minimum Work Experience
Three to five year’s management experience preferred.
Position Type / Expected Hours of Work : Must be willing to work holidays, weekends and provide additional coverage as needed
