General Summary
The Medical Assistant (MA) functions within his / her skill set by aiding in the operation of Occupational Health and Wellness (OHW) including, but not limited to, pre-employment screenings, immunizations, required initial and annual testing to meet regulatory requirements, documentation of services provided and file maintenance, support of department nurses with workers compensation and employee leave programs and surveillance reporting as delegated by the OHW Director and / or LPN / RN. Must be well organized, display a high level of professionalism, excellent customer service skills, detail oriented, able to multitask efficiently, critical thinker and able to perform in a high workload environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Interfaces with existing employees and volunteers regarding health concerns and / or directing them to the appropriate parties within the department or organization.
- Assists with new hire employees during the onboarding process, assisting with point of care urine drug screens according to manufacturer recommended as well as departmental procedure, collection and documentation of records pertaining to immunization history, and documentation of health information.
- Assist with OHW Respiratory Fit Testing for new hire employees and annual department testing in accordance with organizational policy and departmental procedures.
- Schedules employees and volunteers for departmental services and ensures necessary paperwork is completed prior to or upon arrival for appointments.
- Monitor supply inventory, reports supply need to LPN / RN for ordering, rotates existing inventory for use, stocks treatment area.
- Routes phone messages, employee and volunteer questions, and telephone communications to appropriate department personnel.
- Acts as a general liaison between OHW Director and OHW nurses and employees and volunteers.
- Demonstrates ability and competency to meet commitments, work independently, communicate effectively, accept accountability, handle change, set personal standards, stay focused under pressure, and meet attendance / punctuality requirements.
- Assist in conducting surveillance to detect hazards and improper work practices and procedures within the organization; reporting findings to OHW Director and / or LPN / RN.
- Exhibits a high level of confidentiality.
Education
Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant or Medical Specialist program required or equivalent amount of working experience as a Medical Assistant or Registered / Certified as a Medical Assistant.High School diploma.Work Experience
One-year Medical Assistant or other medical specialist experience preferred.Certification / License
Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through and approved accrediting organization, such as the American Medical Technologist (AMT) preferred American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification required.Mental / Physical Requirements
Considerable mental concentration with pressures of time, accuracy, and interruptions. Long periods of sitting with considerable periods of time on a computer is required. Lifting up to 15 pounds, standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting and reaching.Working Conditions
Frequent exposure to infectious and communicable diseases, blood and body fluids and hostile persons at times.
