Position Overview
The Laser Lead Operator / Trainer plays a key leadership role within the Production Department, responsible for operating and overseeing laser cutting processes while ensuring the highest levels of safety, quality, and productivity. This position serves as both a lead operator and trainer-providing guidance, troubleshooting support, and hands-on training to new and existing employees. The Laser Lead Operator / Trainer will coordinate daily laser operations, manage workflow across multiple machines, and drive process improvement initiatives in collaboration with supervisors and quality teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor laser cutting machines to ensure precise, high-quality output in accordance with technical drawings and production schedules.
- Set up, calibrate, and run one or two laser machines simultaneously to maximize throughput.
- Lead, mentor, and train laser operators on proper machine operation, safety protocols, and quality standards.
- Troubleshoot and resolve machine or programming issues in collaboration with maintenance and production teams.
- Review and interpret blueprints, ensuring accurate material selection, nesting, and cutting parameters.
- Conduct regular quality checks to verify dimensional accuracy and surface finish.
- Maintain accurate logs for production output, downtime, and training activities.
- Enforce and promote company safety policies, ensuring compliance with OSHA and Ultra Corpotech standards.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with supervisors, engineers, and QC personnel to improve efficiency and reduce scrap.
- Recommend and implement process improvements related to laser performance, cutting techniques, and operator development.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required; technical training in manufacturing or laser operation preferred.Minimum 7 years of hands-on experience operating laser cutting machines in a manufacturing environment.Proven leadership and training experience in a production setting.Strong knowledge of metal types, laser cutting parameters, and machine setup procedures.Proficiency in reading blueprints and interpreting technical specifications.Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical and process-related issues.Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement in daily operations.Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Must be able to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds regularly.Work is performed in a manufacturing setting with exposure to noise, dust, and heat.Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.Ability to bend, reach, and maneuver around equipment and machinery as needed.Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and adapting to production demands.Benefits
