SR. HIM Support Specialist & Audit Liaison

Position Summary
Responsible for processing, coordinating, and tracking, all medical record requests related to audits, reviews, and compliance activities.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following :
- Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies, and Behaviors.
- Understands and adheres to HIPAA, State, and Federal regulations.
- Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the MPI, EMR, and all HIM software applications
- Maintain confidentiality and always protect patient privacy.
- Serve as the primary contact for external and internal audit requests, including RAC, MAC, commercial payer, government, and compliance audits.
- Receive, log, and track all audit-related requests in the audit management system or tracking spreadsheet.
- Coordinate with internal departments to gather required medical documentation and supporting records.
- Review medical record requests for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with HIPAA and organizational policies before submission.
- Monitor audit deadlines and submit requested records to auditors within required timelines
- Assist with medical record requests from patients, providers, attorneys, and other authorized entities in accordance with privacy regulations.
- Participate in compliance education and training as required.
- HIM Department Kronos Timekeeper.
- Support in the patient record amendment process.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Education & Experience Requirements
Associate’s degree required, (Health Information Technology or related field preferred).RHIT, RHIA certification preferred.At least 2-years’ experience in healthcare operations, or other complex setting with expertise in HIM preferred.Knowledge of HIPAA and patient privacy requirements.Ability to review and interpret legal documents related to health information.Strong organizational skills and accuracy in data entry.Proficiency with Microsoft Office and EHR systems.Excellent communication and customer service skillsCore Competencies

May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital’s SDS (Safety Data Sheet) database and may be accessed through the hospital’s Intranet site (Employee Tools / SDS Access). A copy of the SDS database can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc.Must be able to remain in a stationary position 90% of the time.Constantly utilizes / operates a computer to access information.Must be able to communicate with all internal and external parties. Comfortable with extensive phone use and email.Must be able to view, print, and transfer documents into electronic devices, e.g., create CDs.Must be able to utilize multiple screens simultaneously.Primary Population Served
