At least 1 year experience in healthcare operations with expertise in HIM preferred Knowledge of HIPAA and patient privacy requirements Ability to review and interpret legal documents related to health information. Strong organizational skills and accuracy in data entry. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and EHR systems. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Planning & Organizational Skills Communication Skills Teamwork Adaptability Maintains Composure under Stress May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital’s SDS (Safety Data Sheet) database and may be accessed through the hospital’s Intranet site (Employee Tools / SDS Access). A copy of the SDS database can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc. Must be able to remain in a stationary position 90% of the time. Constantly utilizes / operates a computer to access information. Must be able to communicate with all internal and external parties. Must be able to view, print, and transfer document into electronic devices e.g., create CDs. Must be able to utilize multiple screens to view, correct, and move documentation.
HIM Support Specialist
Position Summary
Responsible for processing release of information (ROI) / medical record requests and maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the facility’s Master Patient Index (MPI).
Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following :
- Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies, and Behaviors.
- Understands and adheres to HIPAA, State, and Federal regulations
- Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the MPI, EMR, and all HIM software applications
- Maintain confidentiality and always protect patient privacy.
- Perform documentation integrity functions, including chart corrections, scanning corrections, duplicate records and record merges.
- Performs release of information (ROI) functions
- Process subpoenas and legal requests according to policy
- Review and validate ROI requests for completeness and proper authorization.
- Retrieve and prepare medical records / images for release in the requested format.
- Log and track all requests in the ROI system.
- Professional communication with all internal and external parties.
- Support HIM during audits, quality control checks, scanning, indexing, and filing health records.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.
