Position Summary
This role is responsible for the safe and efficient planning, scheduling, cost control, execution follow-up and documentation of turnarounds at Lotte Chemical. This position coordinates the TARs onsite from front-end loading thru execution phases, as well as post-TAR identification of, and action on, lessons learned.
Essential Job Functions
- Plans and manage labor & other resources under turnaround / shutdown conditions (short timetable, multiple shifts, etc.).
- Manages and segregates capital project work from maintenance activities; determines project development and execution strategies, including a contracting plan and materials management plan
- Collaborates with Purchasing to develop the material procurement and contracting strategies; develops and maintains effective relationships with key suppliers of parts, services, and labor
- Develops standardized processes and templates for such plans that can be re-used or modified; captures learnings from each outage, adapts templates to incorporate the insights and foster continuous improvement.
- Assures integration of Operation shut down activities, TAR mechanical work, additional capital projects and start-up activities into a master schedule at the scope definition stage
- Coordinate with the TAR scheduler(s) and planners to ensure there is one consolidated TAR schedule with all operations, maintenance, and projects tasks; develops TAR milestone chart for each outage, monitors progress, facilitates resolution in a timely manner
- Supervises TAR Field Coordinator, oversees management of field construction operations and start-up; ensures contract supervisors are effectively managing their personnel; assists to facilitate coordination of subcontractors work with the contractors’ resources
- Builds long-term relationships with external organizations to attain business objectives; leverages potential to bid for two consecutive turnaround-years; maximizes use of alliances to benefit organization
- Coordinates with Maintenance and Capital Projects to minimize impact of TAR on routine maintenance work; optimizes management of materials procured for TAR; partners with Operations to stay within TAR budget and meet TAR milestones
- Maintains master worklist, facilitates scope collection, establishes and maintains scope prioritization criteria, champions scope change process
- Works with site leadership to set challenging yet realistic TAR work hours, cost, and duration targets; leads team to provide accurate up-front engineering and development of cost and schedule estimates for approved work scope including change orders; interfaces with department leaders for effective turnaround Front End Loading and execution
- Ensures TAR team tracks costs and provides monthly accruals to the Financial Group for outage expenditures; facilitates periodic auditing of TAR cost settlements and communicate status to site leadership
- Drives continuous improvement in TAR planning and execution capabilities; develops TAR KPIs, utilizes Cost Analyst to report KPIs on regular basis
- Documents pre-outage reviews of outage standard specifications for maintenance and construction work.
- Partners with internal partners, develops, publishes, communicates multi-year TAR / Outage plan; updates, as needed, based on Operations and Marketing changes
- Abides by all safety procedures and practices applicable to location and position; participates in appropriate safety training; demonstrates commitment to and support of EHSS principles and values; champions safety at all times; participates in and / or leads safety teams or projects as appropriate
- Performs other duties assigned by management that generally fall within the expected scope of this position.
Experience & KSA’s Required
Proven expertise in developing strategies for highly visible, cross-functional, high risk projects with significant business impact.Knowledge of engineering contracting and project execution contracting / strategy.The ability to create complex multi-discipline work process that span across all aspects of the organization.Technical knowledge of ethylene cracker and MEG unit operations including the knowledge required for calculation of project economics and general mechanical knowledge of unit equipment to calculate reliability justificationsProven leadership of ethylene cracker turnarounds, with strong technical knowledge of cracking furnaces, compressors, exchangers, fractionation towers, and related equipment.Full-cycle turnaround management expertise : scope development, planning, budgeting, risk assessment, execution, commissioning, and closeout.Advanced planning & scheduling skills with Primavera P6; ability to integrate maintenance, reliability, and capital project activities into a unified turnaround plan (required).Strong cost control and risk management skills, with a track record of delivering turnarounds on time, on budget, and safely (required).Demonstrated ability to manage large contractor workforces (500+ craft workers) during execution while ensuring safety, quality, and productivity (required).Effective cross-functional collaboration with operations, maintenance, reliability, engineering, and supply chain.History of implementing continuous improvement and lessons learned to enhance turnaround efficiency, cost, and reliability outcomes.TAR execution and management experience including knowledge of plant safety regulations and unit preparation procedures.Builds and maintains effective work relationships with internal and external teams and individuals at all levels of managementMakes effective and prompt decisions when confronted with conflicting information.Manages conflict constructively.Proven strong communication skills, including delivering presentations and facilitating group discussions.Deep knowledge of process safety, EH&S compliance, and regulatory requirements in petrochemical operations.Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization.Advanced SAP skills is a plusAbility to multi-task, prioritize, and follow through on assignmentsGood computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite; ability to use database systems and other programs and applications used by this position and at CompanyFluent in English language including reading, writing and speaking; ability to read and write at a minimum of high school level; ability to clearly communicate to all levels in organizationEducation Requirement
B.S. Degree in Engineering with 15+ years of experience in a chemical or refining plant or 15+ years of relevant industry experience; refining or chemicalsMinimum of 10+ years of experience managing large and medium turnarounds ($60M+ to $150M+ scope) in the petrochemical or refining industry (required).Project management experience requiredSupervisory experience of direct reports requiredProfessional Engineering designation preferredCompetencies
